The unit provides care for a population of high acuity adult medical-surgical patients, oncology and infectious disease. Team members demonstrate self-determination, adaptability to complex environments, and strong communication skills, with a commitment to patient- and family-centered care and professional practice that generates quality outcomes. The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for providing administrative and clinical leadership. This role develops standards of care coordination that promote high quality, cost effective delivery of care; ensures effective utilization of resources; delivers excellent customer service; and maintains compliance with regulatory and internal UCSD requirements. The position may spearhead innovative projects involving multi-disciplinary collaboration for systems improvement affecting patient outcomes across the organization. The role plans, schedules and organizes work for departments to ensure proper distribution of assignments and efficient use of personnel, space and facilities. The Nurse Manager supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care and assists in ensuring quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area, serving as a professional role model. The position may assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager. The role is 40 hours per week, with regular night shift coverage and schedule flexibility to meet pressing needs. Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN). RN license issued by the State of California. BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire date. Minimum of two years of recent PCU acute care RN experience. Charge nurse and/or supervisory experience. Ability to supervise clinicians effectively and manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities of a patient care unit. In-depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards, care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies. Strong knowledge of human resources management policies; ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document HR matters and employee performance; provide input to decision-makers. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to analyze problems quickly and develop effective solutions. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to train and mentor subordinates and convey complex clinical/technical information clearly; prepare and present reports and project proposals. Knowledge of business software, specialized applications, and data management systems used in nursing units. Demonstrated hospital management skills with progressive expertise in patient care services. Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events, and problem-solving with critical thinking.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree of Science in Nursing (MSN). Clinical area certification (PCCN/CCRN) or Nursing Administration Certification highly preferred on hire or within six months. Experience teaching, coaching, and precepting registered nurses.

Must be able to work varied hours and locations based on business needs. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical. The Assistant Nurse Manager provides 60% patient care and 40% administrative tasks.
Pay Transparency
Pay range: Annual Full Pay Range: $132,600 - $259,800 (prorated if appointment percentage
