Senior Project Engineer
in our Columbus, Ohio location. The Senior Project Engineer plays a critical role in delivering capital projects that improve manufacturing operations and facility infrastructure. Reporting to the Manager, Global Projects within Plant Engineering, this position is responsible for: Responsibilities
Defining project specifications and scope of work (SOW). Managing requests for quotation (RFQs) for the procurement of equipment and services. Delivering on project key performance indicators (KPIs). Overseeing installation, punch list completion, and commissioning of new or upgraded systems. Managing projects that may involve new construction or enhancements to mechanical systems (e.g., screw conveyors, material mixers, kilns, liquid dosing controls). Travel to project sites for equipment installations or site evaluations (up to four annual trips). Participating in affiliate meetings across time zones (up to four per month, depending on project locations). Ideal candidates are technically strong, self-driven, and experienced in managing subcontractors to ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery. Key Duties & Responsibilities Strategic & Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to advance manufacturing operations tools and technology using continuous improvement and problem-solving methodologies; conduct process reviews and root cause analyses; develop improvement plans applying lean manufacturing principles. Project Management & Engineering Execution: Manage plant engineering projects from start to finish, including defining requirements, developing designs, obtaining internal buy-in, planning and supervising installations, tracking revisions, and producing final documentation. Technical Documentation: Prepare specifications for and coordinate bidding and purchasing of equipment, materials, supplies, and services; produce accurate mechanical and/or P&ID drawings for layout, assembly, fabrication, and erection of equipment and facilities. Collaboration: Coordinate outside contractors as needed and identify preventive maintenance procedures and spare parts requirements for new equipment. Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Provide engineering support on major breakdowns, equipment rebuilds, and recurring maintenance problem areas; troubleshoot facilities equipment and perform simple repairs when necessary; provide training to Maintenance and other employees on new equipment, safety, and relevant topics. Additional responsibilities include maintaining excellent communication with Maintenance, Production, and other Allied departments and affiliates. Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other technical field, or equivalent work experience. 7+ years of related work experience with prior project management experience managing equipment/facilities budgets ≥ $1M preferred. Strong experience in industrial equipment, OSHA requirements and best practices, dust collection, and material handling. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical design principles. Excellent troubleshooting skills and a practical approach to problem solving. Proficiency with CAD and other related tools. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and willingness to work flexible hours as needed. Additional helpful skills include knowledge of new plant construction, industrial electrical controls and PLC programming, experience with HVAC and facilities equipment, or burner/combustion systems. Working Environment
Office work environment. Frequent exposure to manufacturing facilities with potential dust, heat, or cold conditions. Compliance with Allied Mineral Products’ Safety & Health policy and wearing appropriate PPE.
