Universal Metal Products, Inc. specializes in custom metal forming, serving customers globally in the appliance, transportation, and industrial markets for over 75 years. We are strategically located in three US locations with over 100 forming machines. We provide tooling design, value-added assembly, heat treat and finishing operations. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality/Product Engineer to join our team. This position is responsible for the design, development and testing of new products, as well as the improvement of existing ones. Ensures products meet customer\'s needs and are produced efficiently. Will often collaborate closely with design, marketing, and manufacturing teams to bring a product to market successfully. Key responsibilities include prototyping, quality control and technical documentation. Responsibilities

Support product launches company wide Assist with the development of control plans Participate in design reviews, tooling, gaging, and outside approval process Conduct quality audits as needed Conduct analysis to ensure product performance meets requirements and safety standards Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize production processes and identify cost-effective solutions Implement quality assurance measures to ensure product consistency and reliability Create technical documentation including product specifications, user manuals, and design reports Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work Assist with customer issues related to quality; may make on-site customer visits to resolve issues May perform source inspections and/or surveys, involving visits to a supplier’s facility to evaluate adherence to quality requirements Assist the Purchasing Team in developing and maintaining suppliers, including supplier quality issues; may approve suppliers and assist on various projects Assists in identifying root causes of problems and instituting corrective action; active participant in 8D/5 Why\'s problem solving Assist in development, implementation and maintenance of a quality system that complies with ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 / ISO 14001 Assist in investigating practices, procedures, and performing internal quality system audits Assists with the evaluation of gage R&R and the review of APQP documentation Assists with SPC data collection, training, and analysis Reviews quality trends and participates in defect-reduction programs for assigned product or program Reviews manufacturing instructions for completeness and clarity Audit processes performed by production employees relative to methods and tools Assist with customer environmental requirements at product launch (including IMDS, RoHS, REACH) Other responsibilities as assigned by Engineering Manager Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field ASQ certification (prefer CQE or CQM) Formal training in quality tools: DOE, Six Sigma, mistake proofing, CMM Excellent communication skills (will deal with customers and employees) Able to work well under pressure of deadlines and manage multiple tasks Accuracy and detail oriented Familiarity with engineering terms such as blueprints, control plans
