Overview
Senior Structural Engineer on a long-term contract to support the Sentinel Program, which modernizes the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including ICBM systems and launch infrastructure. This role involves supporting the structural design for the project, originating and checking complex structural calculations, specifications, material requisitions, and technical studies or reports, as well as coordinating with vendors and leading technical discussions and constructability reviews.
Responsibilities
Originates and checks complex structural engineering deliverables, including steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
Prepares or assists in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations, and award recommendations.
Coordinates structural engineering efforts with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional areas.
Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs technical bid evaluations with award recommendations.
Provides technical assistance to other structural personnel and interfaces with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in resolving complex issues.
Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and addressing project structural requirements during execution.
Mentors and assists more junior structural team members.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Structural/Civil Engineering (or international equivalent) with 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Prior engineering team leadership experience, including supervising others.
Ability to independently execute detailed design of complex steel and/or concrete structures.
Thorough knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, IBC, and ASCE 7.
Proficient in structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or STAAD.Pro.
Knowledge of engineering deliverables (drawings, specifications, material requisitions) and construction methods for concrete and steel structures.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to coordinate with other disciplines and departments on projects.
Ability to express technical issues clearly and concisely in writing and verbally.
Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficient in Mathcad or similar software.
Experience with procurement automation tools.
Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
Intermediate knowledge of CSI MasterFormat specifications or SpecsIntact.
Thorough knowledge of ACI 349 and ASCE 4-98 standards.
Registered Professional Engineer in the USA (Civil or Structural).
Active security clearance.
Experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.

Prepares cost estimates, quantity take-offs, forecasts, and change orders.
Coordinates structural engineering efforts with client, vendors, contractors, and other groups.
Assists in procurement documentation and technical bid evaluations with award recommendations.
Provides technical assistance to project and construction management and interfaces with regulatory personnel as needed.
Mentors and assists junior team members.

Job Details
Targeted pay: $75.00/Hour
Local candidates preferred; per diem and MOB/DEMOB may be considered for out-of-state candidates
Long-term Contract: 12 months with possible extension
US Citizenship Required
