Lab Associate II - San Juan Capistristro, CA (Friday - Tuesday, 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM). This non-licensed position provides general support for the laboratory and follows applicable policies and procedures. Department:
Clinical Laboratory – Molecular Infectious Disease Pay Range:
$21.92 - $32.89 per hour. A shift differential of 10% for some or all hours on the second shift and 15% for some or all hours on the third shift may apply. Additional details will be provided if an offer is extended. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and market/organizational factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for an annual performance bonus. Labeling, handling, processing or preparation, transportation and storage of specimens. Identify sample problems and assist in resolving them; demonstrate problem-solving for service and production issues. Prepare testing equipment and assist with preventive maintenance; notify appropriate technical staff of equipment problems. Assist licensed personnel (CA only) or delegated supervisor (non-CA) in pre-analytic and post-analytic testing activities (excluding trainees). Prepare pre-analytical reagents and controls; document for approval to use. Maintain complete records of reagents/media; manage inventory of consumables; restock benches and equipment inventory; rotate stock. Sort and accession incoming specimens into LIS; deliver to designated testing platform/department. Data entry or transcription of results for data reduction; prepare for licensed personnel review. Tally workload data and prepare reports; assist with quality control procedures. Prepare protocols/logs and other documents; resolve or elevate specimen problems to licensed personnel (CA) or delegated supervisor (non-CA). Assist licensed personnel with validation verifications and applicable R&D activities. Train other Lab Associates; support Training Programs where applicable. Suggest process improvements; act as a resource for efficiency and productivity; demonstrate leadership through accountability and collaboration. Answer phones, transfer calls, and maintain client confidentiality. Keep laboratory areas neat, clean, and organized; comply with health and safety policies; use personal protective equipment as required. Other duties as assigned. This is not an exhaustive list of duties. Qualifications Required Work Experience: 1 year of histopathology, cytology, or other laboratory experience (in Histopathology or Cytology departments). 1 year of experience handling PHI and other patient information using a Laboratory Information System (LIS). Preferred Work Experience: 2 - 3 years of laboratory experience. Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to lift objects; weight ranges commonly 1 to 50 pounds with varying frequency; assistance may be required for heavier lifts. Performs repetitive tasks with dominant hand; ability to sit and/or stand for long periods; good eye-hand coordination. Knowledge Working knowledge of reagent stability and storage; awareness of factors influencing test results. Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); strong typing skills; effective communication and interpersonal skills; other automation skills are helpful.
