HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIALIST VI (WORKERS' COMPENSATION) - DOWNTOWN, OAHU (OHHI) Recruitment Information
This vacancy is with the Department of Human Resources Development, Employee Claims Division. This recruitment is being conducted under the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative featuring an expedited hiring process, fast-tracking qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawai’i. This position is located in the Employee Claims Division of the Department of Human Resources Development, and serves as section supervisor in the Claims Management Branch. The duties and responsibilities include: Assigning and reviewing the work of subordinates engaged in processing workers' compensation claims; providing on-going training to subordinates and assisting in conducting statewide claims processing training sessions; Handling the most complex workers' compensation claims cases; attending administrative hearings; and making recommendations for the improvement of the employer's statewide workers' compensation programs. Having thorough knowledge of workers' compensation laws, regulations and procedures, and the ability to represent the employer in investigating and monitoring claims, recommending the employer's position, examining and managing claims, recommending and negotiating settlements, and developing the employer's case and representing the employer in hearings on contested claims. Minimum Qualification Requirements
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements: Legal Authorization To Work The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. Basic Education/Experience:
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university. Workers' Compensation Claims Management Experience Three and one half (3 1/2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in the area of workers' compensation, including investigating and monitoring questionable claims, recommending/determining the employer's position, preparing and recommending settlement offers and negotiating settlements, and developing the employer's case and representing the employer in hearings on contested cases. Staff Specialist or Supervisory Experience: One year of Staff Specialist or Supervisory Experience of the type and quality described below: Staff Specialist Experience: Experience in which a human resources specialist provides advisory services to management in program development and evaluation, or performs extensive work in a given area of specialization and engages in HR research aimed at improving the HR system. Supervisory Experience: Experience in planning and directing the work of others; assigning and reviewing their work; advising on difficult problems; training and developing subordinates; evaluating performance.
