About E&ES Caterpillar’s Electrification & Energy Solutions (E&ES) Division focuses on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and related services. Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.
Job Summary The Electrification and Energy Solution (E+ES) Division seeks an experienced mechanical engineer to support the development of Caterpillar Advanced Power conversion systems. You will serve as a technical leader on complex advanced power products including megawatt class off-board DC chargers and Bidirectional Power Converters for energy storage systems. You will be responsible for the mechanical design and performance of the above power conversion systems from development through production. You will collaborate with cooling, structural, manufacturing, reliability, purchasing and validation teams.
What You Will Do
Lead the global design team and collaborate with cooling and structural teams for the design and release of power conversion components and systems for Caterpillar power conversion products
Meet time, cost, and quality targets
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize product design for production
Collaborate with suppliers to develop and/or purchase components for the power conversion product line
Mentor and train new engineers on mechanical or design processes/procedures for power conversion products development
What You Will Have

Experience with mechanical system design (cooling, packaging and structural) of power generation systems including generators, inverters, DC/DC converters
Project Management: Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects for efficient resource utilization
Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Understanding of manufacturing standards and ability to guide processes for compliance
Product Testing: Ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies to ensure product quality
Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Ability to detect and resolve technical problems in manufacturing or development environments
Degree Requirements
Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Top Candidates Will Also Have
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Caterpillar NPI process knowledge
Cooling design or application experience
Mechanical packaging (sheet metal) and structural analysis; proficiency with IGBT assembly and power converter system design, releasing and manufacturing
Experience with power electronics in industry or academia
Experience working with suppliers and purchasing to bring a new product to market
