Senior Engineer - Energy Systems at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is a position within the Golisano Institute for Sustainability at RIT, supporting industrial/manufacturing client programs of the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I). The Senior Engineer will use technical expertise and industry experience to facilitate the reduction of energy consumption in manufacturing and other industrial environments. The Senior Energy Systems Engineer will evaluate energy use reduction opportunities, manage client and partner relationships, and develop and execute project proposals across a variety of industry sectors. The role includes leading and contributing to projects, researching and developing solutions, mentoring junior staff, and documenting project outcomes through final client reports, case studies, presentations, and workshops. The position reports to the NYS P2I Associate Director. Responsibilities

Screen companies for energy efficiency opportunities, develop project proposals, and manage client relations. Collect and evaluate Federal, State and Local data to inform project decisions (energy intensity, environmental focus areas, and economic trends). Use screening methods and management input to select impactful and relevant project areas. Ensure alignment with Institute initiatives, current expertise, and available staff resources. Establish and maintain regular communication with clients and with statewide Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) organizations, NYSERDA, utilities, and other organizations. Provide hands-on direct assistance to industry across sectors to assess manufacturing processes, collect data on-site, analyze energy and power consumption, and identify cost-effective opportunities to reduce energy use. Conduct secondary research on new technologies and approaches to identify energy-related solutions and reductions in fossil fuel use. Conduct experiments to assess the validity and feasibility of potential solutions for client applications. Provide technical leadership and mentor junior staff; participate as a technical resource on projects led by others. Contribute to grant proposal development and content. Project Management

Plan projects for manufacturing client energy and power use assessment and reduction. Develop scopes of work, budgets, timelines, resource plans, and risk mitigation plans. Execute projects, including resource scheduling, collaboration with contractors and partners, materials, testing, and equipment. Lead multidisciplinary project teams and manage client relationships. Monitor and control projects to ensure on-time, on-budget completion and goal attainment. Utilize project management tools and pursue continuous improvement. Project Reporting and Communication

Lead the writing of final project reports and oversee technical content. Identify, collect, and report environmental metrics; prepare monthly progress reports. Develop content for presentations, workshops, training, case studies, success stories, and articles. Education/Experience

Required Qualifications:

Technology-focused individual with 8+ years of work experience with a BS degree, or 7+ years with an advanced degree. Experience should include direct work on energy efficiency of manufacturing or building systems, or analysis, design, or implementation of energy efficiency or renewable technologies. Skills Strong understanding of electrical, thermal, or thermodynamic energy systems and their relation to energy consumption. Understanding of capital expenditure investment decision making and return on investment. Ability to solve complex problems with data analysis and statistical evaluation tools. Experience in formal report writing; strong verbal and written communication for technical and non-technical audiences. Project management experience for schedule and budget tracking. Self-motivated with strong organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced business or technical degree. Strong understanding of manufacturing principles, processes, equipment, lean manufacturing, and process optimization. Department/College Description
