Job Summary and Responsibilities: Operates diagnostic equipment and performs a variety of technical diagnostic imaging procedures. Provides patient orientation, procedure explanation, and pre- and post-diagnostic care through completion of the test. Performs complete diagnostic imaging tests including positioning the patient, calibration of equipment, and documentation of findings, under the direction of the imaging supervisor/manager. Assists patients with basic patient care needs. Position Responsibilities
Performs complete diagnostic imaging tests on patients according to the departmental procedure protocols under the direction of the Medical Director. Obtains and documents patient history. Prepares equipment ensuring operational safety and adherence to diagnostic standards. Performs periodic QA and ensures requisite documentation. Troubleshoots equipment failure and contacts Lead Technologist regarding equipment problems. Ensures daily equipment and room maintenance before/during/after each procedure; applies special precautions to meet infection control standards. Completes all quality checks and ensures equipment logs are maintained. Completes all clinical supply inventories; ensures each diagnostic room has necessary supplies to perform procedures. Participates with patient testing, handling urgent, emergent, routine and non-routine requests and OR procedures requiring radiographic support. Demonstrates competency in the PACS process and performs daily PACS QA processes and requirements. Communicates with Nursing, Physicians, Patient Care Assistants, Laboratory staff, administrative staff, and other departments to ensure smooth, safe diagnostic procedures. Performs portable examinations at the bedside when applicable to ensure patient safety and provide immediate diagnostic testing when needed. Assists with patient scheduling as required, liaising with other departments as needed. Ensures patient orientation, preparation (including starting IVs and drawing labs as necessary), and patient teaching before, during, and after the test. Reviews physician orders to verify the requested diagnostic exam and ensure the indicated purpose is consistent. Completes exams in the RIS system for accurate billing; communicates when corrections are needed. Provides specific diagnostic test information to the patient so they are aware of the test involvement. Obtains necessary written consent and understanding for any specific procedures. Obtains and documents patient history according to departmental protocols. Completes the diagnostic examination according to departmental protocols. Obtains assistance if any procedures are not completed or if there are patient care issues. Job Requirements
Education and Licensure
Associate's degree (preferred) Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT (R); must maintain current (required) Certified by State of Texas – MRT; must maintain current (required) BLS certification (required) Experience
