Overview
Relief (Locum) Veterinarian position at Banfield Pet Hospital. The pay range for this role is $125 - $145/hour, with the specific rate determined based on experience, skill level, abilities, and education, and may vary by location. The primary purpose of the Relief Veterinarian is to provide preventative care, diagnose and treat diseases and injuries in pets. Essential Responsibilities And Tasks
Ensure the safety of pets, clients and associates by using safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs. Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain proper and complete medical records. Educate clients about preventative care, pet health needs, any diagnosis or treatment, hospital services and related information. Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service including prescribing and administering preventative care for wellness needs and diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries in pets. Communicate diagnosis and treatment plan effectively to the veterinary medical team and client. Follow local, state and federal laws, including proper maintenance of the controlled substance inventory log. Understand and follow state guidelines regarding duties of veterinary assistants and licensed veterinary technicians. Other duties as assigned. Hiring Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required. License in good standing with the applicable state veterinary board. License with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) required. Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries, including use of standard medical instruments and equipment. Ability to multi-task—manage multiple tasks at one time and shift attention under distracting conditions without loss of accuracy. Communication skills—fluent English, strong written and verbal communication. Organizational ability—systematic approach to assignments and turning confusion into order. Surgical skills—capable of performing basic surgeries with standard instruments. Problem solving—identify, analyze and translate problems into practical solutions. Client service skills—provide attentive, courteous and informative service to clients. Intellectual ability—follow instructions delivered in oral, written, or diagram formats. Compassionate commitment to pet care—advocate for the pet and obtain client agreement for appropriate treatment. Mathematical ability—basic arithmetic and unit conversion. Computer skills—proficient with computers and veterinary software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Management ability—enforce policies, maintain morale, and support performance management. Initiative, integrity, cooperativeness, flexibility, independence, and resilience under stress. Special Working Conditions
Ability to work with pets (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc.). May require more than 40 hours per week, including weekends and evenings. English language proficiency for reading, writing and speaking; mental processes for reasoning and problem solving. Moderate noise level in work environment. Ambulatory requirements to perform duties; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and climb; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity; able to use keyboard and equipment. Willingness to be exposed to pet-related hazards and anesthesia, radiation, and medications as applicable. Minimal travel, possibly for vendor visits and associate education. Experience, Education and/or Training
