Responsibilities

Maintains continuous state of alertness and awareness to control and secure the facility and residents. Operates within legal constraints and contract agency stipulations.

Ensures equipment necessary for each watch is operational including radios, flashlights, and keys prior to relieving the watch. Prepares shift documentation including shift reports, work orders, security reports, and unusual incidents that are legible and meet facility standards and contracting agency requirements.

Receives information from previous shift personnel about events, medical problems, disciplinary problems, new arrivals and special instructions. Relieves the watch and informs necessary personnel. Makes entries into the security log showing relief time, name and title.

Conducts radio checks and documents results in the security log. Conducts facility counts at prescribed times and ensures logbooks are accurate.

Frequently patrols the building to observe residents and monitors the state of the building; may involve activities such as smelling for marijuana, listening to conversations, or ensuring doors and windows are secured.

Ensures the building picture board has a picture of all residents assigned and that the picture is in the proper bed slot.

Organizes and supervises resident work details to maintain facility cleanliness and meet facility and contracting agency requirements.

Performs activities on a scheduled and random basis including urinalysis testing, pat downs, shakedowns, counts, or breath tests to maintain control and security.

Documents disciplinary action for rule violations according to procedure and logs accordingly.

Conducts scheduled and impromptu cleanliness checks of the facility and residents' personal belongings to maintain health and environmental standards.

Welcomes visitors and verifies identity while maintaining professionalism and courtesy.

Communicates with residents and staff in a professional manner to affirm and enhance self-esteem, dignity, and positive relations.

Participates in staff meetings to share observations and recommendations regarding the facility, residents and staff relations.

Maintains confidentiality of information obtained through job duties.

Complies with company policies, the Employee Handbook, the Statement of Work, and facility policies and procedures.

Adheres to attendance policies and is available to work shifts or overtime to ensure adequate coverage and safety.

Complies with facility safety rules and takes corrective action to ensure safe work without injury.

Communicates effectively with all levels of staff to promote teamwork.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

One (1) year general work experience; experience in a related field is preferred.

Sufficient organizational skills to maintain workflow.

Ability to express thoughts logically, in written and verbal form using correct grammar.

Demonstrated flexibility to perform a wide range of duties.

Ability to interact effectively with others and learn supervisory techniques.

Ability to maintain positive relations with staff and residents.

Ability to motivate and create an atmosphere of enthusiasm toward work ethic.

Ability to work with computers and applicable facility software.
