This position coordinates repairs, maintenance, and Capital Expense projects, ensuring equipment and building requirements are maintained at a high efficiency level. A Supervisor teaches and mentors technicians, including policy and procedure training, work order management, data recording, parts inventory maintenance, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
What You’ll Do As a Transportation Maintenance Supervisor
Develop budgets for repair, maintenance, supplies, third-party support, and spare parts inventory.
Negotiate maintenance contracts and other third-party support for Transportation.
Identify, prioritize, and coordinate the daily activities of Technicians; inspire productivity, teamwork, safety, and task proficiency.
Ensure training and development of the team on all technical aspects of Transportation maintenance, including refrigeration, heavy‑duty tractors, and trailer repair.
Maintain proper staffing levels, required training, and certifications.
Utilize the computerized maintenance system “Fleet Assistant” to optimize asset utilization through scheduled preventive maintenance.
Monitor expenses by function and equipment.
Provide hands-on repairs to equipment as required.
Maintain an adequate spare parts inventory and monitor purchasing and expenses.
Develop and foster strong vendor and contractor relationships to ensure quality, cost, and customer service for Transportation.
Work nights and weekends if required for supervision or work-related problems.
Maintain and monitor safety processes to keep the shop compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with supervisor and peers; follow directions; work independently or in a team; comply with attendance policy.
Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet changing job needs; work in warm and cold conditions.

Qualifications You’ll Bring As a Transportation Maintenance Supervisor
Have a 4-year degree or equivalent professional training and experience in heavy maintenance discipline.
Have 5+ years of maintenance supervision experience in an automotive or heavy-duty shop.
Possess outstanding leadership qualities, including assertiveness, organization, enthusiasm, decisiveness, planning, confidence, and accountability.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical abilities.
Willing to work flexible hours.
Strong technical working knowledge of medium/heavy equipment.
Proficient computer skills including Windows, MS Office, and maintenance-related systems.
Have 5–7 years of experience on major diesel repairs, heavy-duty tractor-trailer repairs, and major refrigeration maintenance and repairs.
Possess a Valid Class C Driver’s License (Class A preferred); knowledge to handle all trailer and reefer repairs.
Half of the following certifications with the other half achieved within 90 days of employment:
Current ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck Brakes (Test T4)
Current ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck Suspension and Steering (Test T5)
Certifications in Cummins, Detroit, or Maxx Force 13 engines
Brake systems and components
Tractor diagnostics and repairs
Spicer-Fuller, Eaton transmissions
Spicer-Fuller, Eaton differentials
Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT and CSA regulations and safety standards.
Ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks safely and effectively, including work instructions and safety protocols.
