Wealth and Advice Solutions Technology (WAS Tech) is an organization within Schwab Technology Services aligned to support the technology needs of Wealth and Advice Solutions (WAS) business which is a growth area for Schwab. This senior individual contributor position within WAS Tech reports directly to the Senior Manager, Wealth and Advice Solutions Technology. This role will support the future growth of the WAS Tech business. As a seasoned, hands-on Senior Manager of Software Development Engineering, you will lead the development for one or more WAS Tech Software Engineering delivery teams and enable them to achieve consistent, predictable, high-quality delivery by implementing best practices, automation frameworks, development techniques such as pair programming, and oversight in the areas of software development and testing. Youll serve as a strong and versatile hands-on technical leader. You will deliver high-quality solutions that meet business objectives in a flexible, collaborative, and rapidly changing environment. You will play a critical role in supporting software development solutions across the WAS Tech organization which is focused on high-net worth and ultra-high net worth retail investors. You will be working with a team of talented and highly motivated technologists that strive to make technology a strategic differentiator for Schwabs WAS Tech business and their clients. Responsibilities
Lead one or more WAS Tech Software Engineering delivery teams to deliver high-quality software solutions. Implement best practices, automation frameworks, and development techniques (e.g., pair programming). Provide oversight in software development and testing to achieve consistent, predictable delivery. Collaborate with stakeholders in a flexible, rapidly changing environment. Proactively detect, troubleshoot, and remediate production issues; provide clear, timely communication during outages. Support production and operations activities as needed.
What you have
BA/BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent Hands-on experience gained through at least 10 years in a complex full-stack software development role Strong experience developing single page applications with Angular, HTML, TypeScript and CSS Strong experience developing RESTful APIs with Java, Spring Boot, and Hibernate Strong knowledge of object-oriented principles and design patterns Application development using TDD practices like unit testing and Behavior/Feature testing Experience writing unit, integration, and automation tests Application performance evaluation and tuning skills Experience with responsive web design Experience building accessible web applications (WCAG 2.1 Guidelines) Experience with continuous integration and delivery tools - GitHub/GitActions Strong application security experience integrating and resolving vulnerabilities within Veracode and SonarQube Relational database experience within MSSQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle Understanding cloud-native enterprise applications deployed in PCF, AWS, GCP or Azure Proactively detect, troubleshoot, and remediate issues affecting production applications Provide clear, concise, and timely communication during investigation and resolution of outages Understanding of Agile software development principles, including experience participating in a Scrum-based delivery team Exceptional interpersonal skills, including team interaction and communication Experience providing Production and Operations Support
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in computer science or equivalent Experience in building nonfunctional frameworks or libraries Experience in building REST-based APIs, using messaging and streaming technologies Work with development teams at the appropriate stages to ensure the support strategy guidelines are followed and new systems or projects meet the production standards Constantly update knowledge repository, ensure information regarding any support related activities or issues are available and easily accessible Wealth Management and/or Financial Services industry experience Ability to quickly learn and become proficient with new technologies Ability to work independently and collaborate with all types of stakeholders, both technical and business, peers, and leaders Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and contribute to multiple projects simultaneously Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
