Interventional Radiation Oncology of California, Inc. is seeking a qualified junior level Radiation Therapists for their Apple Valley location. IROC is centrally located in the High Desert between Los Angeles, CA and Las Vegas, NV.

Objective Summary Radiation Therapists are responsible for treating patients with ionizing radiation under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist using a Varian Trubeam linear accelerator and a Siemens PowerScope CT Simulator. Radiation Therapists need working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and must be licensed by the state of California.
Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited Radiation Therapy Education program.
Certified applicants have passed the national examination with the A.R.R.T.
Possess CRT and BLS-CPR certifications.
Essential Functions
CT
a. Runs daily and weekly quality assurance measures
b. Ensures the room and scanner are ready for scheduled CT simulations and verify all necessary documents (authorization, consent, directive and etc.) are in the patient chart.
c. Uses and creates immobilization devices to aid in treatment planning CTs.
d. Scans patients using the principles of ALARA, and under the directive of the Radiation Oncologist.
e. Produces a scan within the parameters necessary to make an effective treatment plan
f. Follow-up the scan with proper documentation and notifications to physics and dosimetry.
g. Participates in department required trainings and training of new employees in QA and CT operation.
h. Performs related work as required.
Treatment
a. Run daily and weekly quality assurance measures
b. Possesses a functional knowledge radiation safety, radiation treatment techniques, radiation physics and human anatomy.
c. Uses IGRT if/as prescribed to localize the exact treatment location.
d. Administers accurate and precise radiation treatments according to the prescription and be aware of any changes or MD requests.
e. Setup patients in a precise manner to replicate the original CT scan.
f. Maintains constant visual and verbal contact with patients throughout entire treatment to deliver safe treatments.
g. Expertise in IMRT, 3D, 4D, and electron treatments.
h. Participates in department required trainings and training of new employees in QA and TruBeam operation.
i. Performs related work as required.
Administration
a. Provides excellent customer service to our patients and educates them about their treatments and simulation procedures.
b. Uses effective communication and observation to determine patient needs through monitoring and reports any reactions or untoward therapeutic responses to the Radiation Oncologist immediately.
c. Documents daily treatment procedures in Aria Oncology Information Systems.
d. Checks prescription, diagnosis, EMR, patient identification for treatment and chart rounds.
e. Supervise patient appointments and revises schedule to department or patient needs.
f. Adheres to clinic policies and practices including HIPAA regulations and confidentiality protocol.
g. Follows the activity capture process implemented and appropriately charges for procedures performed.
h. Attends meetings as required
i. Participates in the performance improvement process and related projects
