Pharmacy Operations Manager role at
Walgreens . Responsibilities
Perform day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities where allowed by state and federal laws/regulations. Ensure efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serve as a full-time certified pharmacy technician. Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics. Lead selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Manage training, coaching, and performance, including discipline and termination decisions. Engage customers and patients by greeting them, assisting with products and services, resolving complaints, handling non-clinical requests, and modeling customer service best practices. Build strong relationships by anticipating needs and promoting healthcare services. Assist the pharmacist in patient care delivery, including patient registration, data entry, medication preparation, counting, and verification (where allowed by law). Support health services such as vaccines and health screenings under pharmacist supervision where permitted by law. Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work within policy and regulatory guidelines to ensure on-time tasks and efficient workflow. Prepare and file reports required by the company and government agencies as directed. Manage core pharmacy workflow, daily schedule, and inventory; ensure cleanliness, organization, and adequate supplies. Monitor and ensure compliance with business administrative activities and inventory management. Drive technology/process rollouts, champion change, and coordinate with the Pharmacy Manager on recordkeeping and security safeguards. Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during applicable dispensing activities. Monitor asset protection and report any concerns affecting pharmacy security. Communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and support Continuous Quality Improvement Programs. Process insurance claims accurately and address payer/provider issues, including 3rd party audits. Support store and pharmacy leadership in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service. Coordinate community outreach and off-site immunization clinics as directed; build relationships with retail partners. People & Performance Management
Lead performance management of technicians, including disciplinary actions where appropriate. Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, attendance, timeliness, and overall performance through engagement and action planning. Hire, on-board, train, and schedule technicians. Monitor training completion and enforce established scheduling and training policies. Identify gaps in operations knowledge and support team members with hands-on training or learning modules. Ensure licensures, registrations, and certifications are active and compliant; document licensure status using available resources. Adhere to company policies for recruitment, record retention, and training in accordance with local, state, and federal laws. Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification and pursue required certifications/education credits. Seek professional development and coaching from Pharmacy Manager as needed. Engage in ongoing knowledge and skills enhancement related to pharmacy and healthcare. Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico). One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting. Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico). Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations). Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management/leadership experience. Previous work experience with Walgreens with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation.
