Overview
The Cost Accountant will serve as a key member of the operations finance team and have responsibility for a variety of oversight and support activities. The Cost Accountant role is primarily responsible for ensuring accurate and properly maintained standard costs across multiple plants and product lines, monthly financial closing and reporting, and maintaining transparency within the Hubbell control environment. Maintain and ensure the accuracy of standard costs, including BOMs, routings, labor, and overhead rates across diverse manufacturing processes. Lead the planning and execution of the annual standard cost roll in SAP, ensuring accuracy and alignment with operational changes. Manage month-end close activities, including journal entries, inventory valuation, cost variance analysis, and balance sheet account reconciliations. Partner with operations to classify and analyze production costs, identify cost drivers, and support continuous improvement initiatives. Identify and address root causes of process or control failures, implementing corrective actions to enhance financial accuracy, compliance, and operational discipline. Provide financial guidance and support for major capital projects (AFEs), including tracking, reporting, and post-investment reviews. Support the preparation of annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and quarterly pro forma reporting for plant operations. Onsite Financial lead for the annual physical inventory and manage the ongoing cycle counting program. Ensure compliance with internal control policies, US GAAP, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, while identifying opportunities to strengthen financial processes. Present financial insights and operational performance analysis to plant leadership and corporate stakeholders. Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s or MBA a plus) CPA or CMA certification a strong plus 5 plus years of manufacturing cost accounting experience (multi-product line and/or greenfield experience a plus) Strong working knowledge of SAP, especially related to standard costing, inventory, fixed asset, and cost center accounting Deep understanding of US GAAP, inventory valuation methodologies, and internal control frameworks (SOX) Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, PivotTables); experience with OneStream a plus Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving manufacturing environment Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders Demonstrated leadership and initiative with a continuous improvement mindset About Hubbell
