Overview
Respiratory Care Practitioner in Pulmonary Rehab - PRN, Days at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. The RCP performs routine respiratory care procedures, including preparation, administration and monitoring of medication and treatment modalities, gas therapy, ventilator support, spirometry, and bronchoscopy assistance. May perform diagnostic testing of the cardiac respiratory system as appropriate. Provides direct patient care to support physicians and other health professionals, adhering to standards and guidelines to ensure patient safety and quality service. Responsibilities Promotes a positive, team-focused work environment and collaborates with the inter-professional team using effective therapeutic communication and comprehensive data reporting.
Communicates effectively to provide high-quality service during every customer and patient encounter.
Acts as a patient advocate, facilitates interventions to relieve patient/family spiritual distress, and supports ethical issue resolution.
Contributes to department metrics related to turnover, retention, and employee engagement through peer-to-peer accountability.
Performs respiratory care procedures including arterial blood gas analysis, pulse oximetry, spirometry and related measurements, ventilator support, bronchodilator administration, and diagnostic radiology procedures as applicable; prepares, administers, and monitors treatments and medications.
Performs additional procedures as assigned (e.g., Electrocardiograms, Holter monitors, ABG tests).
Provides patient care by applying respiratory care concepts, optimizing results, and recognizing/ addressing complications.
Utilizes peer-to-peer accountability to improve patient satisfaction and department performance.
Troubleshoots and maintains equipment per guidelines; performs preventive maintenance and quality control; documents activities; assists physicians in testing and result assessment; ensures quality and reliability of results.
Qualifications Education : Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s).
Licenses and Certifications - Required : RRT (NBRC), RCP (state licensure), BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA).
Licenses and Certifications - Preferred : PALS or NRP depending on area.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Ability to safely perform the job, proficient English communication, customer service focus, basic computer skills, strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities, time management, and ability to handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
Work Experience : One year of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner preferred; prior experience with pulmonary function testing in outpatient settings is preferred.
Supplemental Requirements Work Attire : Scrubs yes; Uniform no; Other department-approved attire yes.
On-Call : On-call may be required during emergencies; yes.
Travel : Travel within the Houston Metropolitan area may be required; travel outside the area not required.
