NOVA Home Loans We are seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join our team and help drive excellence in loan quality and customer service. This role is ideal for a seasoned underwriter with at least 10 years of experience, including active FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA SAR/LAPP credentials, and deep familiarity with DPA programs. This position offers a hybrid schedule with two remote workdays and three in-office days each week. Responsibilities and duties include evaluating complex Conventional and Government mortgage loan applications to ensure compliance with NOVA, agency, investor, and mortgage insurance guidelines, and maintaining high quality and productivity standards while delivering excellent service to clients. Responsibilities
Review and evaluate mortgage loan applications to ensure compliance with NOVA, investor, mortgage insurance (MI), agency, and all applicable guidelines within established service standards.
Underwrite both Government and Conventional loan products.
Provide guidance and respond to inquiries regarding underwriting issues and concerns from internal stakeholders.
Analyze complex personal and business tax returns to accurately calculate qualifying income.
Assess borrower eligibility, property eligibility, and credit qualifications for complex financial profiles, non-standard collateral, and unique loan structures.
Consistently meet or exceed quality and productivity standards as established by management.
Clearly communicate underwriting decisions and conditions to internal and external customers, both verbally and in writing.
Ensure adherence to NOVA’s quality standards throughout the underwriting process.
Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years of mortgage underwriting experience.
Active FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA SAR/LAPP credentials required.
USDA underwriting experience preferred.
At least 5 years of experience underwriting loans involving Down Payment Assistance (DPA) programs.
