Position:
P&C Underwriter (Hybrid)
role at
American Family Insurance . In this flex office/home role, you will be expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from one of the following office locations: Madison, WI 53783; Eden Prairie, MN 55343; St. Joseph, MO 64507; Phoenix, AZ 85034. Primary Accountabilities
You will apply insurance and risk concepts to underwrite new business for basic and/or less complex products. Depending upon product, you may re-underwrite based upon policy guidelines. You will evaluate profit factors in area of responsibility. You will establish rapport with agents and sales management in their area of operation. You will serve as a resource for the field force and sales management. You will identify when reinsurance may be required. You will escalate more complex risk to experience team members or manager for guidance. You may apply reinstatement and rate reconsideration guidelines on inforce policies. You will perform risk assessments that align with established actuarial pricing and rate class guidelines. You will establish rapport with agents and sales management to deliver adverse decisions, explain the action, and determine if medical information is confidential or sensitive. You will serve as a resource for the field force and sales management. You will handle more complex risk situations with less dependence on others or manager for guidance. You will be the subject matter expert on corporate projects, training and mentoring of staff. Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
Previous experience as an Underwriter or in Underwriting Support Technically proficient and flexible. Must be able learn/use multiple technical platforms Solid knowledge and understanding of insurance, underwriting guidelines, and risk concepts. Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills. Demonstrated risk assessment skills. Demonstrated experience making independent decisions regarding underwriting cases. Understanding of lean methodologies and A3 problem solving is a benefit. Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service. Travel up to 10% Additional Information
