About the Role:
The Concrete Pump Operator plays a critical role in the successful execution of construction projects and other heavy infrastructure projects by operating concrete pumping equipment safely and efficiently. This position requires the operator to manage the setup, operation, and maintenance of concrete pumps to ensure continuous and precise delivery of concrete to designated locations on-site. The operator must adhere strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment for all personnel. Additionally, the role involves coordinating with rigging teams and other heavy equipment operators to optimize workflow and project timelines. Ultimately, the Concrete Pump Operator ensures that concrete placement is performed accurately, on schedule, and in compliance with all safety and quality standards at the South Hill, VA Plant location.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A.
Proven experience operating concrete pumps and heavy equipment in road construction or similar environments.
Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safety inspection procedures.
Ability to perform rigging tasks and understand heavy equipment operation.
Physical capability to perform manual labor and operate machinery safely.
Qualifications:
Certification in concrete pump operation or related heavy equipment operation.
Experience working in a plant environment similar to South Hill, VA.
Additional safety training certifications such as OSHA 10 or 30-hour construction safety.
Familiarity with diesel truck maintenance and troubleshooting.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in team-based construction settings.
Responsibilities:
Operate and control concrete pumping equipment during construction and other heavy construction projects.
Perform daily safety inspections and routine maintenance on pumps, brakes, and diesel trucks to ensure equipment reliability and compliance with safety standards.
Coordinate with rigging crews and other heavy equipment operators to position pumps and hoses effectively for optimal concrete delivery.
Comply with all DOT regulations and company safety policies to maintain a safe work environment.
Maintain accurate logs of equipment usage, maintenance activities, and any incidents or irregularities encountered during operations.
Skills:
The required skills such as construction knowledge, rigging, and heavy equipment operation are essential for safely and efficiently managing concrete pump operations on-site. Mastery of DOT regulations ensures compliance with legal and safety standards, reducing risk and enhancing project reliability. Proficiency with pumps, brakes, and diesel trucks allows the operator to conduct thorough safety inspections and perform necessary maintenance, minimizing downtime.
