Police Investigation Tech role at City of Charlotte (Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department). Salary: $23.00 - $25.75 Commensurate with Experience. Date Opened: Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Deliver a high level of professionalism when interacting with internal and external customers. Support the CMPD False Alarm Unit with alarm permitting issues, questions, and concerns via phone and email. Manage and maintain the False Alarm permitting database daily; review registrations and updates for accuracy. Assist the public, alarm companies, and police personnel with permit questions, balances, and payment processing. Receive, investigate, and process alarm appeals; gather necessary information and utilize police databases for further information. Process, scan, update, and enter appeal information and evidence into the False Alarm Database system. Respond to police personnel and permit holders as needed when processing appeals. Assist CMPD Asset Management Unit with related tasks as applicable (e.g., asset forms, data updates, audits, and reports). Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree with one (1) year of related experience, or High School Diploma or equivalent with three (3) years of related experience. Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s Degree with three (3) years of related experience. Experience with Microsoft Office products, and relevant CMPD/ERP systems or equivalents. Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License. Ability to understand, apply, and explain applicable alarm ordinances. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of general office procedures and administrative terminology. Ability to prioritize and multi-task; deliver clear and concise communication. Ability to research, compile, and prepare reports and correspondence for management or government agencies. Familiarity with computer systems such as Microsoft Office, asset management or call reporting systems. Problem-solving skills. ADA and Other Requirements
Positions require standard sensory and physical capabilities; occasional lifting and movement may be required. Physical and Sensory Requirements
Physical conditions include sitting, standing, and occasional lifting; good vision, hearing, and speech are required. Ability to concentrate on data entry and proofreading in a busy environment with interruptions. Working Conditions
