Overview
The South Florida Water Management District is a regional governmental agency that oversees the water resources in the southern half of the state, covering 16 counties from Orlando to the Florida Keys and serving 8.1 million residents. It is the oldest and largest of the state’s five water management districts. Our mission is to safeguard and restore South Florida’s water resources and ecosystems, protect our communities from flooding, and meet the region’s water needs while connecting with the public and stakeholders. The District’s Office of Counsel is seeking to hire an Attorney to represent the District in a wide variety of government law issues, including but not limited to public records matters and eDiscovery. Interest or experience in environmental law is preferred. Candidates must have outstanding writing, analytical, editing, and research skills. The ability to work in a collaborative, diverse environment is also required.
Responsibilities
Represent the District in a wide variety of government law issues, including but not limited to public records matters and eDiscovery.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate has a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and typically 2+ years of experience in substantive and procedural law and complex legal problem-solving skills. Active member of the Florida Bar in good standing. Valid State of Florida Driver’s License. Interest or experience in environmental law is preferred.

Physical Requirements / Working Environment
Due to the District’s response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may, at times, require support before, during, and after major storm events and emergencies, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
