11/01/2025 SpEd Paraprofessional - Preschool performs day-to-day activities of teaching special education and typically developing preschool students under the supervision of a teacher. The paraprofessional does not make diagnostic or long-term education decisions. This role supports the preschool teacher in implementing the preschool curriculum and fosters a positive and safe learning environment. It assists licensed special education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurses, and other evaluative staff in implementing student goals. This position addresses current student needs at the specified school. If the program or school changes, the individual may be required to relocate to another school where needs are demonstrated during the school year. This is a 4.5 day position (7.5 hours per day Monday-Thursday and 3.75 hours on Friday). Reports consistently for work as scheduled Performs other duties as assigned Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established performance standards Produces and maintains certifications necessary to support students with special needs Performs tasks for students such as meal preparation, feeding, and lunch clean-up, implementing communication, oral motor, sensory integration, and physical IEP goals Carries out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments per lesson plans Works with small groups of students under teacher supervision to reinforce material Assists students with medical tasks (e.g., dispensing medication, tube feeding, toileting, diapering) and may involve exposure to blood or infectious disease control Cleans and disinfects according to protocol Maintains confidentiality of student information Assists with mobility and positioning (e.g., maneuvering wheelchairs) Provides basic first aid/emergency care Supports students with routine classroom transitions and use of facilities Supports programming using therapy-related equipment as assigned Sanitizes equipment and materials Monitors behavior contracts and reward systems Trained to use Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques when appropriate Assists with non-standardized testing of students Develops and implements games and teaching aids Tutors students in various subject areas Assists students in preparation, production, and maintenance of materials and equipment Coordinates completion of assignments with classroom teachers and/or employers Works with students in one-to-one or group settings Assists students in locating materials and books in the library Conducts story time for students Monitors students during recess, hall duty, passing periods, and bus loading Supervises students using computer programs Assists students in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks Attends meetings, pre-job training, ongoing training, and required meetings to stay up-to-date Serves as a resource to the student personnel evaluation team as needed Supports teachers in integrating assisted technology into classrooms Maintains student files with updated information Maintains, orders, and organizes inventory of materials and equipment for the program Collects data for assessment and monitoring purposes Performs miscellaneous clerical duties and supports other staff Laminates materials as needed Prepares bulletin boards for parents and programs Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Ability to adapt to changing technologies and learn new systems Effective verbal and written communication Ability to manage information across software systems Strong record-keeping and filing skills Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals Ability to follow oral and written instructions Courteous, professional interaction with the public Maintains confidentiality Ability to manage multiple demands and set priorities Willing to work at assigned days, hours, and locations as directed Ability to work independently without direct supervision Commitment to the education of students Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Detail-oriented, energetic, creative, flexible Collaborative problem-solving and teamwork Knowledge of office methods and procedures Knowledge of Special Education, related programming, and legal requirements Promotes a positive district climate Strong written, listening, and verbal communication skills Student-centered and relationship-focused Understanding of data privacy laws Willing to participate in professional development (CO-TOP, OT-PT training, and other training) Willing to receive on-the-job training for student needs Willingness to perform delegated nursing tasks if trained Willingness to engage in ongoing training Work Environment Work is typically in a classroom setting; some visits to homes, schools, offices, or job sites may occur Noise level may vary Occasionally required to work extended hours or days as directed May involve exposure to fumes or higher noise levels Potential for direct or indirect personal harm or conflict situations Possibility of life-threatening situations requiring quick response Physical Demands Sits, stands, walks, stoops, kneels, and crouches Dexterity for interaction and use of equipment Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, may require two-person lift May be required to climb stairs, ladders, or stools Performs physical tasks as needed to support students Active role may require moving between locations Cognitive Functions The role may require analysis, coordination, instruction, evaluation, and interpersonal communication.
