– We are recruiting to hire at the Fish Hatchery Specialist 1 or 2 level, and we will train a Fish Hatchery Specialist 1 up to the Fish Hatchery Specialist 2. Salary:
Depending on level hired, salary ranges are: Fish Hatchery Specialist 1: $3,581.00 - $4,771.00 Fish Hatchery Specialist 2: $3,925.00 - $5,271.00 Learn more about being a member of

Standby duties are currently assigned; standby entails supervisory coverage after regular shift hours. What To Expect
Responsibilities include the following major areas: Perform Fish Culture Feed fish their calculated daily ration Monitor fish behavior, health, and production Administer therapeutics and calculate/administer drugs as prescribed Clean ponds, raceways, troughs, and incubator systems to maintain fish health Perform fish inventories, splits, grading, marking trailer inventories, weight samples, and plants Handle eggs: egg loss, fertilization, incubation using various vessels Collect adult mortality, apply head tags for broodstock, and enter data into hatchery documents and fish books Identify targeted and non-targeted species, gender, stock origin, and maturity when trapping and spawning adults Conduct remote trapping and spawning operations, including transportation of equipment and gametes Fertilize eggs per spawning protocols and HGMP requirements Track temperature units (TU’s) and monitor chillers; adjust TU’s and thermal marks Record Keeping And Reporting Use computers and software for data entry, record keeping, and reporting Submit agency forms such as fish transfer tickets and hatchery invoices Perform water quality analysis and discharge monitoring reports (DMR) as required to maintain permits Create programs to project growth rates through yearly rearing cycles Operation And Maintenance Of Facility And Equipment Maintain proper water flow and rearing environments Monitor facility support systems including generators and water treatment Apply herbicides or controlled burning for weed control Maintain road access and navigate snow with appropriate equipment Operate forklifts, tractors, pumps, and common power tools Design/fabricate hatchery equipment as needed Public Contact And Communication Respond to questions from visitors and conduct tours Address difficult questions and follow up to provide answers Working Conditions
Work is performed outside in all weather conditions. May involve strenuous physical activity and working near water with slippery surfaces. Schedule:
Typically, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hours may vary seasonally due to facility needs. Standby:
Standby duties are assigned, including coverage for 10 consecutive days with 7 standby days and 4 days off. Housing:

This Fish Hatchery Specialist 2 (In-Training) series provides mentoring and career development. Candidates will be hired as a Fish Hatchery Specialist 1 or 2 based on skills and experience, with automatic promotion to Specialist 2 after completion of the in-training plan. Required Qualifications for Fish Hatchery Specialist 1 Option 1: Three (3) years of experience in fish culture duties in a hatchery Option 2: Associate’s degree in fisheries technology, biology, or closely allied field Option 3: Three (3) years of education towards a Bachelor’s degree in fisheries, biology, or closely allied field Option 4: Successful completion of a fish culture program from a vocational school License: Valid driver’s license Special Requirements/Conditions Of Employment Successful completion of agency training and/or certification as directed by supervision This position requires standby Required Qualifications for Fish Hatchery Specialist 2 (Goal Class) Option 1: Four (4) years of experience in fish culture duties in a hatchery Option 2: One (1) year of experience as Fish Hatchery Specialist 1 and completion of agency supervised training Option 3: Associate’s degree in fisheries technology, biology, or closely allied field and one year of fish culture experience Option 4: Two (2) years toward a Bachelor’s degree and one year of fish culture experience Option 5: Vocational school completion and one year of fish culture experience Special Requirements/Conditions Of Employment: Standby and training requirements as above Preferred Qualifications In addition to required qualifications, the ideal applicant may have: Basic fish culture techniques and rearing procedures Knowledge of water dynamics, instrumentation calibration, and safety Proficiency with computers and basic software Your Application
