Overview
Organ Family Services Coordinator (Bereavement/Crisis Counselor) under the general direction of the Regional Clinical Manager, Family Services, Organ, coordinates a wide range of support for potential organ donor families. Information is articulated in an easily understood and accurate manner to families whose ability to process information may be impaired by emotionally traumatic circumstances. Coordinates and facilitates emotional support during and after discussions of the donation process. Establishes rapport with donor families, Infinite Legacy team members, and hospital staff involved in the donation process. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to diversity of all kinds (cultural, religious, educational, etc.) while working with families and hospital staff. Education and Experience
Master's degree at an accredited college or university with major coursework in social work, counseling psychology, nursing, or related allied health degree. Bachelor's degree with minimum of 4 years relevant experience will be considered. 2 - 4 years' experience in an acute health care setting (preferred) or in hospice, bereavement counseling center, etc. where there was active involvement in issues involving death, dying, grief and loss. Required Skills/Abilities
Ability to interact with grieving families in a supportive, empathic manner while considering cultural diversities. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to provide information to donor families, recipients, health care personnel, and the general public. Ability to use technology to access Infinite Legacy databases, draft letters, send/receive email, and access the Internet for vital information/resources to assist donor families. Must maintain current technologies and internet connectivity as needed. High level of accountability with the ability to work autonomously; strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Will perform ten 24-hour shifts per month in addition to simulation time with external/internal partners, team, and organizational meetings; majority of work activity is 10am–10pm. Ability to travel throughout Infinite Legacy\'s Donor Services Area. Duties/Responsibilities
Establish initial contact with potential donor families and provide trauma, grief, and bereavement services, or identify hospital/community resources to provide this service. Communicate the plan for grief and bereavement services to Infinite Legacy staff responsible for following the referral for donation. Complete all necessary documentation within timeframes established by Infinite Legacy and its regulatory bodies. Collaborate with Infinite Legacy staff and funeral homes during local organ and/or tissue cases; coordinate with clinical personnel, DSC, AOC, HS, and TR to ensure donor families' needs are communicated to the Infinite Legacy team. Initiate follow-up support to donor and non-donor families when appropriate and complete aftercare components within regulatory timeframes. Offer the option of organ and tissue donation in accordance with state, federal, and industry regulations; provide a copy of authorization or disclosure and complete medical/social history proficiently. Facilitate sharing of correspondence between donor families and recipients; work with local transplant centers, OPOs, and tissue processors to obtain recipient updates when requested by donor families. Attend regularly scheduled Infinite Legacy staff meetings, FS team meetings, and case reviews. Working Conditions
Frequent prolonged use of computer screens; travel to donor hospitals, off-site meetings, and Infinite Legacy functions in all weather conditions. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, pharmacological agents with precautions as required. FSCs are essential personnel and are expected to be available in inclement weather; not eligible for flexible scheduling program. Position is 100% clinical with valid driver\'s license and reliable, insured automobile; ability to move within office, hospital, and outdoor environments. Must have manual dexterity to operate telephones/computers; proficient in English for verbal and in-person communication; computer literacy in Microsoft Windows and Office. Work requires attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and handling workload from others that may cause mental fatigue; lifting up to 40 pounds. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and TB risk in hospital settings; may involve handling packaged organs and tissues for transplant/research. Benefits
