Investigator, Anti Money Laundering (AML) Case Investigations
Location: Chicago, IL (320 S Canal St). This role has a hybrid requirement: 2x per week in office currently, with the possibility of moving to 3x per week after Sept 15, 2025 (space permitting). Overview: Conducts investigations to identify, assess, decide and report on activity that indicates exposure to financial crimes. Ensures potential threats and investigations are evaluated, documented, managed and escalated by following standard operating procedures. Provides subject matter expertise and oversight of criminal risk by applying a disciplined, intelligence-based approach to detection and research of activities and events in alignment with criminal risk frameworks and standards to ensure compliance and support trending, analysis and insights generation. Responsibilities: Develop solutions and make recommendations based on understanding of business strategy and stakeholder needs. Provide advice and guidance to assigned business/group on implementation of solutions. Help determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of business/group strategy. Conduct independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues. Support the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Build effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders (e.g. law enforcement agencies and other financial institutions) to collaborate in investigations. Ensure alignment between stakeholders. Integrate information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting. Identify business needs, provide content/develop tools and training programs; may include delivery of training to audiences. Analyze and assess incidents or cases that may be complex and require knowledge on several product lines. Prepare reports, notifications and activity/case filings per guidelines and standards. Support the planning and implementation of programs to minimize risk exposures and maximize efficiency of analytical processes. Provide input and develop recommendations for process and customer service improvements. Stay abreast of financial crimes risk trends, relevant regulations and compliance standards. Monitor and analyze information provided through detection systems, tools, reports, or manual inputs to evaluate and determine required actions. Support the collection of evidence and information for incident reports/filings, loss prevention, litigation, management information, and process improvements. Document actions and information found during investigations to maintain account/case files. Develop and maintain an understanding of financial crime management processes, frameworks and techniques. Gather and format data into regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards; analyze data to provide insights and recommendations. Execute routine tasks within relevant service level agreements; provide notification and instructions to stakeholders as necessary. Focus may be on a specific business/group; think creatively and propose new solutions; exercise judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules. Work mostly independently; broader responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Qualifications: Typically 3-5 years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of risk and regulatory requirements as they apply to financial crimes is an asset. Knowledge of banking products, services, processes, and organization is an asset. Specialized knowledge from education and/or business experience. Verbal and written communication skills – in-depth. Collaboration and teamwork skills – in-depth.
