Youth Mentor 2nd Shift REGIONS Staff Secure Residential Treatment Program for Male Youth – Hartford, CT. Shift (4:00 PM – 12:00 AM). Compensation: $23.27/hour. The REGIONS Staff Secure Program is a residential treatment program for up to 8 male youth. The mission is to provide a home-like, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, gender-specific, linguistically appropriate, strengths-based, and relationship-driven milieu to help youth improve their social, physical and emotional well-being. The treatment aims to reduce risk factors and support successful reintegration into the community. The program emphasizes individualized care that helps youth develop a positive self-image, learn coping skills, experience success, build relationships, and re-enter their communities better prepared to succeed. The youth may have a higher violence risk but it is not likely to be chronic. They are amenable to treatment and are not expected to pose ongoing safety risks to the public. Position Requirements

High school diploma/GED or higher with experience working with at-risk or court-involved adolescents and in residential treatment programs. Associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with related internship may be considered in lieu of work experience. Understanding of gender-specific, trauma-informed, culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate issues. Strong interpersonal, communication, emotional intelligence, decision-making and crisis management skills. Ability to interact effectively with a multi-cultural population. Must share the belief that people can change and deserve quality services and opportunities to succeed. Valid CT driver’s license and reliable transportation; ability to transport clients to appointments and into the community. Capacity to become medication and Safe Crisis Management (SCM) certified; willingness to work additional hours/overtime as needed. Bi-lingual ability (Spanish/English) preferred; candidates with lived experience are encouraged to apply. Training Requirements And Work Environment Conditions

Mandatory 120-hour training curriculum within the first year of employment; trainings will occur during standard hours (8:00 AM to 4:00 PM). Minimum of 40 hours of training annually thereafter. Required trainings include Ethics and Boundaries, Suicide Prevention, First Aid/CPR/AED, Safe Crisis Management, PREA, DCF Mandated Reporting, and additional job-specific trainings. Safe Crisis Management training includes verbal de-escalation and physical restraint methods to maintain safety of youth and staff during crises. Work environment notes: position may involve exposure to assaultive or abusive behavior from youth and potential risk of injury. Exposure to communicable diseases is possible. Responsibilities

Provide direct supervision and care; assist youth with daily activities including school and groups. Maintain a safe, strengths-based, gender-responsive, trauma-informed, linguistically appropriate and culturally sensitive environment. Promote a culture of respect, empathy, mutual support and belonging; work to eliminate unconscious bias or discrimination. Maintain accountability for the location of youth; know and implement agency/program policies and procedures. Mediates and resolves youth problems using relational and strengths-based approaches; follow policies and procedures. Utilize approved verbal and/or physical de-escalation techniques as needed; maintain communication with necessary parties. Use program behavior motivational procedures as needed; conduct DBT coaching and groups to address negative behaviors. Monitor youth visiting; maintain professional boundaries with youth and families/visitors. Maintain and complete accurate logs and forms; facilitate therapeutic programming under supervision. Reinforce individual treatment plans and assist with discharge planning as part of the REGIONS treatment team. Conduct counts and safety checks; complete internal and external facility security tasks. Complete pre-post assignments and knowledge of universal precautions related to risk of communicable diseases. Serve as a positive role model; establish professional boundaries with staff, youth and providers. Participate in required trainings; conduct – and participate in – security procedures as needed. Occasionally conduct “Pat Downs” of youth and visitors to maintain security. Perform other duties as required.
