Overview
Security Officer-Evening Shift (Hopkins Bloomberg Center) in Washington, DC. This position is for the evening shift (2:30-11:00 PM). Responsibilities
Staff main public safety desks and actively monitor assigned cameras, reporting events outside of normal operation as necessary. Greet and direct visitors, and manage pedestrian traffic as needed. Update visitor management software as visitors arrive and control/restrict access to the building. Monitor bike and scooter parking activity and enforce University policy as needed. Provide security for the University's property, facilities, and activities. Maintain all security devices and products in good working condition. Patrol assigned areas on foot and participate in crime prevention. Respond to routine and emergency calls for various services and take appropriate action. Conduct preliminary investigations, maintain confidentiality, and write clear, concise, and accurate reports. Conduct security inspections of University facilities and areas and report conditions. Provide escorts and other general services, including locking and unlocking rooms. Work flexible shifts as needed, including weekends, holidays, or during special events. Cross-train for additional posts as needed (e.g., Patrolling, Command Center). Perform other security-related services for faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Investigate University security incidents/crimes and prepare appropriate reports. Notify University personnel and/or external groups as necessary (e.g., human resources, student affairs). Facilitate law enforcement and DCFEMS responses to crimes, medical emergencies, and fire alarms. Liaise with law enforcement regarding crime prevention. Be prepared to work flexible shifts and unscheduled overtime on any day of the week, including holidays or weekends. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the manager from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Qualifications
Acceptable completion of basic security officer training and related training required. Must pass a physical/health screening, including a drug screen, as required by the Office of Occupational Health and Safety. Must meet Campus Safety and Security physical requirements. As a condition of employment, must successfully complete a University criminal background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test. Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive Johns Hopkins University (JHU) vehicles for the duration of employment. Proof of U.S. citizenship and at least 21 years of age as required by the DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection and MPD Security Officers Management Branch. Must meet requirements to obtain a Security Officer license from the DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection. Overtime shifts may be mandatory for operational needs; must be available to work weekends, holidays, and/or non-regular shifts. Ability to handle both routine and crisis situations calmly and efficiently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare comprehensive reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting. Ability to read and understand all operating procedures and instructions. Strong customer service and communication skills; professional and effective interaction with others. Intermediate computer skills to utilize wireless technology. Ability to complete the Campus Public Safety Institute (CPSI) academy to obtain certification. Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED. Completion of basic security officer training and related training required. Must pass a physical/health screening and meet Campus Safety and Security physical requirements. Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in law enforcement, corporate/public safety, or military settings. Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Liberal Arts, Cyber Security or Social Sciences. CPR and First Aid certification, Campus Public Safety Institute. Demonstrated ability to handle complex assignments.
