Established in 1907, Sargent Electric Company is a large electrical contracting company providing comprehensive services. Position: Safety Coordinator. Location: Westville, IN and support for NW Indiana locations. This is a full-time position to manage the company’s health and safety program for the Build Westville project, including site safety training and technical/safety support for project leadership.

Responsibilities

Provide general safety training to all personnel at the site and maintain training records that ensure compliance with OSHA and Department of Labor & Industry as well as local and customer requirements.

Maintain sound knowledge of OSHA and applicable consensus standards such as ASTM, ANSI and NESC.

Support site leadership after incidents by using investigative skills to gather facts in a logical sequence.

Assist leadership in developing all causal factors for Near Miss and other incidents.

Develop corrective actions for each causal factor utilizing the Hierarchy of Controls.

Be the voice for safety during project planning meetings and provide safety support to site leadership to make safe decisions.

Assist in the development of Job Hazard Analyses and mitigation strategies to prevent injuries.

Evaluate effectiveness of safety programs through daily field walks and compliance auditing.

Provide coaching and mentoring to site leadership to correct unsafe behaviors and recognize safe behaviors.

Provide regular feedback to project leadership and the Regional Safety Manager on safety improvement and recognition needs.

Meet regularly with field personnel and assist in developing project-specific corrective action plans.

Collaborate with other safety professionals on the jobsite to discuss incidents and prevention measures.

Routinely meet with the Regional Safety Manager to discuss employee behaviors and factors for a safe working environment.

Perform weekly toolbox talks with employees.

Onboard all new employees and conduct new hire orientation and training as required.

Minimum Job Requirements

Must pass all pre-employment testing, including background, driving record, BAC, drug, site security, and other required tests.

Extensive experience in the industrial and commercial fields.

Electrical experience preferred but not required.

2+ years of experience in field safety or a similar role.

Ability to work independently, strong communication skills with ability to influence behaviors in both leadership and field personnel.

Safety certifications such as CSP and OSHA 30 are desired.

Must have a reliable means of transportation, clean driving record and adequate automobile insurance.

General Work Environment

The Safety Coordinator will report directly to the NW Regional Safety Manager.

Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted in both indoor office settings and outdoor construction jobsite settings. Environmental conditions will vary.

Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.

Occasional work at heights and in confined spaces.

Compensation

Sargent Electric offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.

Full-time position.

Overtime may be required and compensated at time and a half.

Travel required approximately 70% of the time; mileage or a company vehicle will be furnished.

No relocation cost will be furnished.
