Job Description and Position Requirements The Department of Campus Recreation is seeking an entry level
Outdoor Adventures Facilitator
who will facilitate high quality outdoor/adventure experiences for individuals and groups in the Penn State community and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Provide excellent customer service and facilitate a positive culture of risk‑management.
Assist with daily operations of program and facility areas.
Lead activities in a variety of settings including group‑based team building (indoor & outdoor), indoor climbing facilities, Stone Valley Recreation Area (boat rentals, outdoor climbing structures, facility rentals, general recreation), outdoor trip leading, and the Outdoor Adventures Rental Center.
Drive University vehicles and trailers as required.
Participate in mandatory staff development workshops and trainings (Monday nights, 6‑8pm) and any additional site or role specific training for professional development.
Work a minimum of 10‑12 hours per week, with potential for up to 24 hours, including 1‑2 afternoons/evenings per week and 5‑6 weekends per semester. Overnight shifts may be required.
Qualifications
Prior outdoor leadership experience is welcomed but not required.
Demonstrated desire to learn new skills, develop facilitation/leadership abilities, and interact with others in dynamic and challenging settings.
Valid U.S. driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check.
Ability to pass standard background checks in accordance with University policies.
Campus Recreation Department Overview Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the new expanded and renovated 200,000‑square‑foot Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700‑acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts, the White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports.
Campus Security and Legal Compliance Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those regarding alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters. The ASR is available for review here. Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
