About the Employer : Rex and Margaret Fortune School of Education is a comprehensive education system including, non-profit preschools, a network of tuition-free, public charter schools (TK-12th), and a school of education with master programs and educator preparations programs accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, in Sacramento/San Bernardino County. Job Summary The Education Specialist is responsible for providing quality instruction to students with various disabilities. The role involves implementing curriculum to ensure student success in academics, development of interpersonal skills, participation in activities of daily living, documenting student progress/outcomes, addressing specific student needs, maintaining a safe and optimal learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding progress and goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, maintain IEPs, quarterly reports, and progress monitoring for measuring goals.

Collect and report progress monitoring data for all student goals.

Conduct IEP meetings within mandated timelines.

Make data-driven instructional decisions to improve student outcomes.

Complete Quarterly Progress Reports.

Complete mandatory reporting as required by state and federal guidelines.

Complete all special education paperwork accurately, according to regulations, and on time.

Develop and monitor appropriate transition plans for students of transition age.

Serve as a liaison and resource to Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPA’s).

Adapt lessons for the purpose of implementing the IEP goals and meeting the special needs of students.

Advise parents/guardians of student progress to support expectations and home collaboration.

Assess students’ social and academic needs to evaluate requirements, placement and program success.

Collaborate with school personnel, agencies and community partners to maximize student outcomes.

Direct instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides as needed.

Instruct students with individualized needs to develop academic, interpersonal and daily living skills.

Manage student behavior to maintain a safe learning environment.

Prepare teaching materials and progress documents (grades, attendance, notes) for lesson implementation and progress reporting.

Report incidents in line with Education Code, district and/or school policies.

Assist other personnel as required and participate in meetings for credential requirements.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree

Valid California Teaching Credential - Special Education (Mild/Moderate) Credential Required

Appropriate certification for teaching English Language Learners

Three or more years of experience serving students with special needs

Required knowledge, skills & abilities

Ability to motivate students, communicate across diverse backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance and address student needs.

Knowledge of appropriate special education categories, age-appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, and relevant laws.

Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform tasks, maintain records, and collaborate with students, parents and staff to meet deadlines.

Physical Abilities

Hearing and speaking to conduct training and exchange information

Reading printed material and computer screens

Reading speech at normal levels

Dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and office equipment

Ability to kneel, bend, reach overhead and horizontally to retrieve and store supplies

Ability to climb stairs, walk, sit for extended periods; ability to lift and carry 10 pounds
