Environmental Associate

Beacon Health System . Reports to the Supervisor. Performs a variety of duties to maintain the Hospital in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition. The primary responsibility is to clean and disinfect all areas of the hospital following established methods, from cleanest to dirtiest, and in a systematic order. Contributes to a positive and healing experience for patients. Responsibilities
Cleaning and disinfecting hospital areas using the proven methods (top to bottom, clockwise or counterclockwise, and cleanest to dirtiest). Cleaning occupied patient rooms using the 7-step process and unoccupied rooms using the 10-step process. Normal cleaning and disinfection of all areas, including high dusting, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, trash and linen removal, sweeping, mopping or vacuuming floors, making beds when applicable, cleaning windows and glass, and restroom disinfection. Stocking supplies (paper goods, plastic bags, soaps, sanitizers, and various cleaning tools). Maintaining equipment and work area in a clean and orderly fashion; moving furniture; hanging drapes, cubicles, and shower curtains as needed. Collecting and removing dirty linen from patient care areas and managing linen workflows. Completing additional tasks as assigned throughout the day. Cleaning linen handling, stocking and distribution: stocking/exchanging linen carts to par levels, handling clean linen sanitary, identifying needed items, and maintaining orderliness of linen areas. Maintaining and operating scrub machines; using color-coded linen bags; responding to linen calls and delivering to patient care areas. Equipment maintenance and safety: hand hygiene, PPE use, standard precautions, reporting repairs, cleaning equipment, proper chemical storage and labeling, and timely requests for service. Maintaining hospital floors, walls, vents, etc.: spill/stain remediation, floor burnishing/stripping/shower scrubbing, and proper cleaning of equipment after use. Waste and soiled linen disposal: transporting general waste, operating trash compactors, handling infectious/hazardous waste per training, cleaning spills, packing and shipping waste, and recycling where applicable. Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to department effectiveness: completing daily assignments, demonstrating professionalism, and supporting department performance. Organizational responsibilities: attending meetings, completing mandatory education and health requirements, maintaining licenses/certifications, adhering to universal precautions and policies, and willingness to work overtime or different shifts when required. Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; minimum 17 years of age; at least one year of related experience preferred. Knowledge & Skills
Professional image with patients, visitors, and colleagues; effective communication of Environmental Services needs. Basic math skills for preparing cleaning solutions. Ability to read, write, and follow basic instructions; after training, ability to use chemicals, procedures, supplies, and equipment correctly. Ability to use technology (i.e., iPods, tablets, mobile devices, computers). Working Conditions
Patient-care environment with physical exertion, variable demands, potential exposure to chemical and biohazards. Physical Demands
Physical ability and stamina for manual labor, ladder use, standing/walking for long periods, pushing/pulling carts, and lifting objects at least 50 pounds.
