The HVAC mechanic is responsible for general maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance of HVAC systems. This position provides a first response to trouble calls related to hot/cold conditions, ice machine, and refrigeration issues. Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 PM- 6:30 AM Job Description: Primary Responsibilities: Performs basic repairs and maintenance of all heating/cooling and ventilating components common to building operations. (essential) Operates, repairs, maintains, and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment common to the HVAC trade. (essential) Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (essential) Performs record keeping requirements and written reports as part of a daily routine. (essential) Responds to emergencies such as floods, power outages, etc., during off-shift hours if asked by supervisors. Snow removal is also part of the Maintenance Department responsibilities. Additional Responsibilities: Experience in brazing, silver solder, and pipe alterations. Works from blueprints and specifications, diagnosing mechanical issues, estimating requirements, and materials for repairs and installations. Required Qualifications: High School diploma or GED required; Vocational or Technical training in HVAC preferred. Certificate 1 CFC Universal Certificate required. 3-5 years related work experience required. Basic familiarity with computers and web-based applications. Competencies: Decision Making: Ability to make decisions based on instructions and established procedures with minimal supervision. Problem Solving: Ability to address routine problems and suggest process improvements. Independence of Action: Ability to follow instructions; work monitored by supervisor. Written & Oral Communications: Ability to understand and communicate in English effectively, following safety instructions and responding to routine questions. Knowledge: Basic understanding of fundamental concepts and procedures; specialized knowledge not required. Team Work & Customer Service: Respectful interaction with colleagues and patients, responding promptly and courteously. Social/Environmental Requirements: Attention to detail; routine work with occasional judgment calls. Work involves exposure to environmental conditions such as dust, fumes, chemicals, heights, extreme temperatures, noise, and outdoor elements. Exposure details: Daily exposure to dust, gases, fumes, steam, chemicals, working at heights, and using protective equipment; several times a week to extreme heat, noise; seasonally to extreme cold. Health Care Status: HCW 3 – Service in patient care areas. Sensory & Physical Requirements: Close visual work, color perception, ability to distinguish heat/cold, smell, and monitor equipment. Physical demands include exerting up to 50 lbs occasionally, frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling, with occasional heavier lifts up to 100 lbs.
