Job Summary
The Anesthesia Technician functions as an assistant to members of the anesthesia staff (Anesthesiologists and CRNAs) to facilitate and support delivery of perioperative care to the patient. The technician ensures practice is aligned with hospital standards and best practices. Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Experience in lieu of degree is not accepted. Essential Functions
Collaborates in perioperative anesthesia care of patients to ensure safety and efficiency of care; reports to the Nurse Manager of the Operating Room and the Chief of Anesthesia. Transports patients from stretcher/bed and assists with transfers as needed. Attaches vital signs and related monitoring devices to patients. Collaborates with the Surgical Team in positioning patients for procedures (e.g., spinal, epidural, sitting, prone). Assists in the intubation procedure under the direction of the anesthetist/anesthesiologist by preparing equipment and applying cricoid pressure as directed. Supports safe transfer of patients from the operating room to PACU with immediate post-operative readiness of transfer oxygen and ambu bag. Performs related duties promptly and courteously (e.g., transporting blood samples for blood gases). Maintains appropriate supply of anesthesia equipment and supplies; reports inventory levels to the Nurse Manager and Chief of Anesthesia. Coordinates requests from the anesthesia team for items needed during procedures. Maintains gas tank par levels and keeps anesthesia equipment and monitoring units in working condition; communicates with biomedical/equipment service teams as needed. Executes equipment repairs within 24 hours to ensure patient safety and continuity of scheduled surgeries. Monitors and documents daily anesthesia equipment safety checks in accordance with hospital, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. Assists with purchase requisitions when par levels are affected. Maintains equipment and instrumentation in clean, organized condition according to infection control policies; keeps anesthesia carts and machines clean. Maintains specialized instruments and equipment (e.g., fiberoptic scopes, end-tidal CO2 monitors, humidifiers). Operates sterilization equipment per standards and participates in cleaning/removal/terminal sterilization of equipment exposed to contagious diseases as required. Participates in quality assurance activities for the operating room and Department of Anesthesia; collects data as required by quality assurance criteria. Qualifications
Education : High School Diploma or Equivalent required Experience : 6 months hospital experience required; prior Anesthesia Tech experience preferred Licenses and Credentials : No specific licensure noted beyond hospital requirements Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Adheres to I C.A.R.E. Standards. Checks anesthesia equipment for proper working condition. Maintains par levels of supplies in the Anesthesia Cart and maintains cleanliness of equipment/workspace per Infection Control policy. Other Details
