Job Purpose As electrification and distributed energy resource (DER) adoption accelerates, utilities must evolve to support a more dynamic and affordable electric grid. DER flexibility products enable customer‑ and third‑party‑sited resources — such as solar, battery storage, EVs, and smart thermostats — to provide support to the electric grid where and when it is needed, and enable the integration of more sustainable clean energy resources.
Lead the development, launch, and early‑stage implementation of new and recently launched DER flexibility offerings for customers in MA and NY.
Key Accountabilities
Team Leadership
Build and manage a small team of product developers, owners, and program managers
Foster engagement, growth, and development within the team
Stakeholder Coordination
Cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., IT, procurement, implementation partners)
Align product strategy with customer insights, marketing, sales, regulatory, and jurisdictional electric business planning and operations functions
Product Development
Identify gaps and opportunities in DER flexibility offerings
Lead product discovery, validation, and benchmarking across the energy industry
Program Launch and Execution
Oversee go‑to‑market and commercial strategies, including marketing and customer engagement
Ensure timely, high‑quality delivery of new and existing programs
Product and Program Execution Management
Oversee the implementation of new and recently launched DER flexibility programs, ensuring that all components are delivered on time, delivered within scope, and meet quality standards
Regulatory Filings, Compliance and Reporting
Prepare regulatory filings to support approval for new product proposals
Maintain compliance and reporting for approved programs
Continuous Improvement
Use stakeholder feedback and performance data to refine offerings
Budget Management
Manage program budgets to ensure efficient resource allocation
Qualifications
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, energy management, business administration, or a related field.
Experience
5–10 years of experience in project or program management within the energy sector, ideally in renewables or DERs
Experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing complex stakeholder environments
People management experience preferred
Technical Knowledge
Familiarity with energy efficiency, demand response, electric vehicle programs, and DER integration into grid operations
Understanding of Massachusetts and New York energy regulations and compliance preferred.
Skills
Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, with a track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget.
Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Office, project management software, and data visualization platforms
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Salary $126,000 – $148,000 a year – Upstate, NY
$151,000 – $178,000 a year – Downstate, NY
$141,000 – $166,000 a year – Massachusetts Salary commensurate with location and experience
