On-Call/Registry Food Service Worker - Retail Support/Sanitation at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. This role involves patient meal service, cafeteria duties, sanitation, and cashier responsibilities. Responsibilities
Provide timely, efficient and accurate patient tray line setup and patient meal assembly. Provide courteous and timely setup and service in the cafeteria, at cashier stations and for catered events. Deliver and retrieve patient meals to and from nursing units in a safe and expedient manner. Maintain sanitation and cleanliness of service ware, pots, pans, equipment and work/service areas; operate the dish machine for service ware sanitation. Prepare toast, salads, desserts and other food items requiring some preparation according to directions and quantities. Operate cash register accurately with no over rings or shortages; ensure cash drawer has proper level of cash and obtain change as necessary. Refill coffee urns, juice and milk dispensers as needed and stock cafeteria with items including donuts, fruit, silverware, condiments, paper products and the like. Follow safe food handling practices, maintain items at appropriate temperatures and follow storage practices; sustain a sanitary work environment per health standards and department policies. Assist patients as necessary in selecting daily meals. Perform any other duties as assigned in the best interest of SRAlab. Qualifications
Ability to read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions; perform non-complex math at a level typical of elementary schooling. Approximately 1–3 months on-the-job experience to become familiar with basic food preparation techniques and cafeteria procedures. Interpersonal skills to courteously greet patients and staff. Basic analytical skills to portion food and stock stations. Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail for tasks such as handling charges, money, counting and weighing items. Working Conditions
Normal office or patient environment with occasional exposure to high noise levels and hazards from slippery floors and hot equipment in food production areas. Kitchen environment with heat, humidity and potential burns from grill. Pay and Benefits
