Summary

Responsibilities

You will coordinate with FAP case manager in developing appropriate plan of assistance/intervention, which provides for the safety of the victim and their family members.

You will provide advocacy service to non‑offending parents or caregiver of the identified victims of child abuse.

You will develop and facilitate briefings and classes to commands and other military agencies on domestic abuse and child abuse.

You will provide training on domestic abuse prevention, identification of child and spouse abuse, and provide resources to prevent and treat domestic abuse and Navy’s policy regarding family violence.

You will train all Child Youth Program (CYP) personnel who work with children on the causes and effect of child abuse and neglect, identification of child abuse and neglect and the reporting responsibilities.

You will provide outreach services to promote awareness of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse to the community through events, online promotions and other coordinated services with Commands.

You will be responsible for responding to after‑hours calls to the FAP On‑Call Phone to address and offer VA services to whomever is calling to report DV or CA incidents.

Conditions of Employment

Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.

Within the Department of Defense, the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 U.S.C. § 3326.

Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered for Selective Service.

Security clearance prior to duty: Obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.

Driver’s license: Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Must meet the qualification requirements described in 32 CFR § 61, Subpart B, PS 29: Prevention and Education Staff Qualifications AND PS 30: Victim Advocate Staff Qualifications.

Must obtain the Basic Advocate Credential and Comprehensive Intervention Specialist designation within six (6) months of hire.

Travel: May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites. Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.

Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing family advocacy services for victims of spouse or intimate partner abuse and child abuse, community outreach, education and training for the service population, and providing assistance to non‑offending parents or caregivers to victim of child abuse.

Education

Basic requirement: a degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

Or combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge in one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

Or four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
