Job Description Overview Apex Systems is seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join our client’s IT Infrastructure team.
Key Responsibilities
Provide support for a large-scale SQL Server environment including 1000+ production and development databases, and 60+ SQL Servers.
Administer, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases across development, test, and production environments using tools such as SSMS, SQL Server Agent, and PowerShell.
Ensure high availability, performance tuning, capacity planning, and disaster recovery planning utilizing technologies such as Always‑On Availability, Log Shipping, and Replication.
Monitor database health and implement proactive maintenance strategies.
Collaborate with application developers, infrastructure engineers, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders to support data‑related needs, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions aligned with business goals.
Manage database security, access controls, and compliance with internal policies.
Perform data migrations, upgrades, and patching as needed.
Document processes and contribute to knowledge transfer for future permanent staff.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments.
Strong proficiency in performance tuning, backups/restores, and replication.
Senior level experience with SQL Server versions 2016 and newer.
Familiarity with cloud‑based database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL) is a plus.
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (SOX, NERC, TSA, NACHA) is beneficial but not required.
Proven troubleshooting and communication skills.
Proven ability to work independently and manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and automation tools.
Exposure to data governance and compliance frameworks.
Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services and PowerBI.
Experience with Azure MySQL.
