Join to apply for the Surgical Instrument Tech role at Trinity Health MI. Roles include a rotating shift schedule and a requirement to pick up a minimum of 3 shifts per month, based on department needs, with a comprehensive training schedule that includes in-class training during the day and hands-on training on all shifts. Shift: Rotating; Availability to work shifts between 6am-8pm. Responsibilities
Utilize strict aseptic technique, open sterile packs, instruments, and supplies for operating room procedures. Secure and prioritize equipment needs for procedures. Assemble and check functionality of suction system. Complete case cart / locker requirements by adding supplies/instruments stored in the OR, referring to the preference card, and documenting as appropriate. Clean, assemble, and label instruments for sterilization. Operate flash sterilizer according to procedure, observing protocols for quality assurance. Clean operating rooms and equipment following operative procedures. Transport specimens, supplies and equipment as directed. Transport patients to and from the operating room, monitor for untoward reactions, respond to patient needs within scope of preparation and training, and assist with transportation of patients with cardio monitors and/or ventilators. Provide relief coverage for clerical or custodial staff as needed; operate telephone, computer and floor wet vacuum; participate in emergency communication. Prepare specialty supplies such as sub packs, eye packs, cast supplies, breathing tubes, positional aides, etc. Maintain appropriate levels of supplies in the operating rooms, rotate stock and check for outdates. Act as a teacher of job duties and responsibilities in staff orientation and development. Practice within OSHA guidelines (e.g., body substance isolation) and maintain a safe work environment. Demonstrate good customer/supplier relations and complete mandatory in-service requirements. Perform direct patient care activities within the scope of preparation and training, including vital signs, patient positioning, feeding and dressing, and discontinuation of IV infusions when appropriate. Perform routine housekeeping chores and related duties; maintain patient and work area cleanliness. Maintain confidentiality of patient, physician, employee, and visitor information; discuss information only among appropriate personnel. Comply with hospital mission, vision and values; promote safe practices and report hazards promptly. Qualifications
Education:
High School diploma or GED required. Requires basic skills in reading, writing and arithmetic. Experience:
Six months healthcare work experience or education. Required Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively verbally. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 50% of work time. Ability to prioritize multiple required tasks. Ability to work and communicate with others in stressful situations with diplomacy and tact. Ability to see, hear and speak. Ability to stand, sit, bend, stoop, and walk briskly. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds several times during shift; ability to assist in lifting patients up to 250 pounds on occasion. Ability to grasp or grip repeatedly; ability to push/pull carts or stretchers with patients/equipment up to 250 pounds with assistance; ability to push/pull carts up to 150 pounds independently. Basic problem solving skills; mechanical ability to disassemble/reassemble instruments and operate flash sterilizers. Working Conditions
