Overview
STATE POLICE TROOPER I – State of New Hampshire. Open recruitment for full-time Trooper I positions within the Division of State Police, Department of Safety. Base pay range: $31.03/hr - $40.02/hr. This range is provided by the State of New Hampshire. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more. Responsibilities
Performs traffic enforcement, motor vehicle collision investigation, and law enforcement patrol functions within an assigned troop/unit area according to established laws and procedures to reduce loss of property and life and ensure safe and orderly flow of traffic. Enforces all federal and state commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations by performing motor carrier safety inspections, weighing trucks and ensuring proper permits. Pursues fleeing subjects, arrests suspects, and uses appropriate force where necessary; intervenes in disputes to restore peace and safety and to advise of rights and processes. Searches people, vehicles, buildings and outdoor areas to detect and collect evidence and substances that may constitute offenses. Fosters positive relationships with NH state agencies, education/community groups, nonprofits, and wraparound services to enhance law enforcement and safety outcomes. Maintains a presence with community resources to address citizen issues including homelessness, addiction, and mental health. Independently assesses situations, exercises discretion, and determines when it is lawful to detain, when probable cause exists to search or arrest, and when to use force, including deadly force when necessary. Gathers information and conducts criminal investigations by interviewing victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informants; utilizes information technology and data-based investigative tools (NCIC, MRMS, in-cruiser CAD, Crash SR, eTicket, State Police Telecommunications System). Reads legal documents, conducts legal research, files and answers legal motions, and writes investigative and administrative reports for prosecution or testimony in court. Operates a law enforcement vehicle in day and night shifts, including emergency responses in adverse conditions. Operates and maintains firearms and equipment in accordance with certification standards; uses technology and equipment such as cameras, surveillance tools, and sensors. Demonstrates communication skills to present and prosecute cases in administrative and court settings and to provide testimony in judicial forums. Performs rescue functions at accidents and emergencies, including directing traffic, administering first aid, and evacuating people as needed. Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Associate’s degree or 60 credit hours
from an accredited institution, major in criminal justice or equivalent. Experience: No experience required. OR Education:
High school diploma or high school equivalency . Experience: Two years of experience consisting of any one of the following: One year as a full-time certified police officer and one year of honorable military service (intermittently or full-time), OR Two years as a full-time certified police officer, OR Two years of honorable military service (intermittently or full-time). License/Certification: Upon appointment, candidates must obtain a New Hampshire driver’s license in compliance with NH statutes. Special Requirements
Age/Citizenship: Must be at least 21 years old and a U.S. citizen. Eyesight and Hearing: Must have at least 20/100 in each eye uncorrected and corrected to 20/40 (near) and 20/30 (distant); normal hearing sufficient to perform essential job functions. Examinations: Must participate in physical agility, written examination, structured interview; undergo background investigations, polygraph, and psychological examinations; medical examination at State expense; drug testing; and other examinations as required. Police Officer Certification: Must obtain and maintain full-time police officer certification within the NH Police Standards and Training Council’s timeframe.
