Indiana Department Of Environmental Management (IDEM) Our mission is to protect human health and the environment while allowing environmentally sound operations. We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits; staff inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; enforce as necessary; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state. Responsibilities

Investigate potential incidents of groundwater contamination from private water well owners’ complaints and referrals. Evaluate and recommend remedies to documented groundwater contamination incidents. Answer public and staff inquiries and provide information about groundwater and possible contamination sources. Provide statewide Ground Water Monitoring Network (GWMN) technical support, field support, and hydrogeologic review/input to the Ground Water section. Contribute to the goals of the Environmental Performance Partnership Agreement (EnPPA) with EPA; support source water protection and the Safe Drinking Water Act by: Managing groundwater databases supporting the Statewide Ground Water Monitoring Network Supporting field sampling efforts Reviewing and evaluating technical guidance documents, reports, journals, and related articles Reviewing departmental files for assessment and reporting Providing technical assistance to staff, state and federal agencies, industries, contractors, environmental engineering consultants and the public Attending related training, conferences and seminars Performing related duties as assigned This position requires a valid Indiana Driver's license. Compensation

Salary statement: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. What You'll Need For Success

The ideal candidate should minimally have either: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Geological Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited college or university. Licensed Professional Geologist in Indiana preferred. Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience. Extensive knowledge of geologic/hydrogeologic science and related fields; Thorough knowledge of federal and state environmental laws, regulations, acts, and guidelines; Experience with statistics, environmental design, geologic sampling, and interpretation of geologic analysis; Knowledge of remedial and corrective action related to program areas; Ability to conduct intensive research for geologic and hydrogeologic advancement; Ability to determine resolutions to geotechnical problems; Specialized knowledge of geophysical instrumentation (e.g., electromagnetometer, resistivity meter, seismograph); Specialized knowledge of well hydraulics, groundwater modeling, drinking water management, and related regulations. Supervisory Responsibilities
