Police Patrol Officer (Entry Level or Lateral Transfer) This Police Patrol Officer is an FLSA non-exempt, entry-level position under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant. The duties involve police patrol, criminal investigations, traffic laws / regulations, related criminal law enforcement activities, and a wide variety of community services. Employees work in partnership with the community to identify and resolve issues, provide public safety, and maintain peace, safety, and order. The position requires exercising judgment, initiative, and skill in a variety of situations and may require acting without direct supervision. The role includes work in highly stressful, emergency situations where injury or death might occur. Responsibilities

Performs proactive police patrol functions, responds to calls for service, enforces laws, maintains order, prevents crime, provides services to assist the public, and enforces traffic laws Investigates crimes, gathers evidence, interviews people, issues citations, makes arrests, prepares reports and cases for prosecution, and testifies in court Observes, analyzes, and assesses problems under varied circumstances; applies knowledge and judgment to solve problems and render appropriate decisions Interacts effectively with culturally diverse groups and individuals; calms emotional people and provides superior customer service Engages in effective communication with a wide variety of people both verbally and in writing Maintains self-control under stress; maintains mental and physical fitness appropriate to the position Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and functions well as part of a team Follows verbal and written instructions and orders; complies with organizational values, policies, and procedures Completes required reports, documentation, forms, or logs; inspects and maintains police-related equipment, facilities, and uniforms Works varied hours, holidays, and weekends Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Be a U.S. citizen at time of application Be at least 21 years of age by date of the written exam Possess a high school diploma or GED at time of application A valid driver’s license at time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment (license restrictions may hinder driving on City business) Not have been convicted of certain felonies or misdemeanors that would affect POST certification Military veterans must provide DD-214 with Honorable or Uncharacterized discharge if applicable Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of applicable statutes, regulations, ordinances, and codes; department policies and law enforcement practices Self-defense techniques, basic grammar and writing skills, superior customer service, and keen observation De-escalation strategies, traffic laws, basic math, high integrity, and emotional intelligence Ability to meet intellectual and physical requirements; work independently with minimal supervision; communicate effectively with diverse groups Professional conduct, integrity, and ability to work under stress; ability to use assigned equipment and firearms/lateral weapons as applicable Ability to testify in court and perform investigative work; operate a motor vehicle under adverse conditions Must Have The Skill And Ability To

A good driving record Strong writing and oral communication skills Dedication to public safety; emotional stability under stress Ability to work varying shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends; extended periods of high stress Physical Requirements

Endurance to lift and assist individuals and equipment; various lifting and physical tasks Balance, bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, reaching, standing, twisting Explosive leg strength and cardiorespiratory fitness; ability to perform under rough terrain and stairs Prolonged sitting in a patrol vehicle; ability to read, hear, and respond to standard documents and environments Clear vision, color discrimination, and effective communication by phone or in person Frequent grasping, handling, and keyboard use; vehicle operations and radio use Special Conditions Of Employment

Work is outdoors and indoors with exposure to extreme temperatures and all weather conditions. Periods of high activity and stress in emergency situations exist, with mandatory overtime and varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Benefits
