Overview
Environmental Technician at WSP in the U.S. is a full-time role supporting environmental operations and maintenance. The candidate will work outdoors on remediation systems and field efforts in the greater Cheyenne, WY area, with potential travel to projects in Wyoming and northern Colorado. The ideal candidate has mechanical and electrical skills, good written and verbal communication, and a willingness to train in environmental systems. Responsibilities
Work under the supervision and mentorship of a Senior Environmental Scientist or Engineer. Travel to project sites primarily in the greater Cheyenne, WY area; approximately 95% of work is field-based. Operate and maintain remediation systems (groundwater and soil), including pump-and-treat, air sparging, and soil vapor extraction. Perform troubleshooting, routine and non-routine operations and maintenance (electric motors, mechanical pumps, electrical power supply systems, etc.), field testing and data recording. Assist in site characterization and monitoring field efforts, including collecting soil, groundwater, and air samples. Gather data accurately and prepare clearly written daily field reports to support field activities. Coordinate with outside vendors and subcontractors, with internal team support, to obtain required system spare parts, chemicals, sampling kits, etc. Think proactively to anticipate maintenance needs and address system issues before they impact performance; schedule tasks across multiple sites to maintain reliable systems and meet compliance requirements. Basic/Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 3+ years of experience in construction, equipment operation and maintenance, or remediation system maintenance. Good mechanical skills. Self-starter with the ability to work independently or collaboratively with a team to meet business objectives. Strong communication skills to detail and explain issues with equipment to team members and vendors (oral and written, in person and remotely) for troubleshooting remedial systems. Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required. Ability to understand procedural manuals and execute work orders. Attention to detail and ability to follow directions. Must pass physical, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy. Preferred Qualifications
OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification. High-level mechanical and electrical aptitude. Experience operating and maintaining soil vapor extraction (SVE), groundwater capture, adsorption (granular activated carbon, ion exchange, etc.), In-Well Air Stripping (IWAS), and chemical oxidation systems. Physical Demands
Field activities may occur in unfavorable weather conditions. Field activities may require specialized protective equipment; candidate must be physically capable of performing tasks in such equipment. Ability to lift 40 pounds. Normal vision (close, distance, and peripheral) and auditory function. Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to wear a respirator as required. Expected Salary (Colorado): $55,000 - $70,000 (Hourly $26.00 - $33.65). The compensation range is provided in good faith and may vary based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and geographic location.
