Network Engineer with 3-5 years of experience in wireless and core routing/switching technologies. Skilled in supporting autonomous systems, outdoor wireless configuration, and RF spectrum analysis. Strong communicator with a focus on reliable, scalable network solutions. Job Title: Network Engineer Job Location: Tucson, AZ 85745 Job Duration: 24 months with possible extension Job Description Summary: The main function of a network engineer is to determine user requirements and design specifications for computer networks. A typical network engineer is responsible for planning and implementing network upgrades. Job Responsibilities: Adjust network sizes to meet volume or capacity demands. Communicate with customers, sales staff, or marketing staff to determine customer needs. Coordinate network operations, maintenance, repairs, or upgrades. Design, build, or operate equipment configuration prototypes, including network hardware, software, servers, or server operating systems. Determine specific network hardware or software requirements such as platforms, interfaces, bandwidths, or routine schemas. Develop and implement solutions for network problems. Skills: Verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, customer service, and interpersonal skills. Basic ability to work independently and manage one’s time. Basic knowledge of computer hardware as it relates to data storage. Knowledge of computer software, such as configuration management software, desktop communications software, operating system software, and internet directory services software. Education / Experience: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field required. 2-4 years experience required. This role will focus on wireless network support for Caterpillar autonomous and remote-control applications. Technologies could range from Wi-Fi to private LTE and private 5G cellular. The position requires working at the Tucson Proving Grounds and Tinaja Hills Training Center, focusing on day-to-day support of wireless technologies that support Caterpillar autonomous and remote-control machines. 3-5 years of route/switch core network experience. Should understand Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum. Configuration and troubleshooting of outdoor wireless experience desired (deeper experience than cellular drive testing). Mechanical capability is required (installing outdoor access points on solar trailers, moving solar trailers, working with tools on and around heavy machinery, etc.). Experience with autonomous or remote-control systems is a nice to have. Typical Task Breakdown: On-site daily at Tucson Proving Grounds and Tinaja Hills Demonstration Center supporting validation work as well as customer and dealer demos. Working on and around heavy equipment to ensure wireless connectivity functions properly. Testing and tuning RF (Wi-Fi and cellular) around the two facilities is a critical daily task. Interaction with Team: Working closely with the group of engineers. Reporting into the work director and technical lead. Team includes 8-10 members in the Peoria area and 5 outside of Peoria. Onsite at the proving grounds, working around heavy equipment. Education & Experience Required: Years of experience: 2-4 years. Degree requirement: High School Diploma or GED required; Master’s degree accepted. Internships are not accepted as job experience. Comparable backgrounds include Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. Top 3 Skills: Configuration and troubleshooting of outdoor wireless experience desired (deeper experience than cellular drive testing). Good understanding of Wireshark and packet capture analysis. Understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum. Additional Technical Skills (Required): 2-4 years of route/switch core network experience. Good understanding of Wireshark and packet capture analysis.
