Perform both clinical and administrative duties, including chair-side assisting, reception, inventory, sterilization, charting, and record keeping. Essential Duties & Functions Administrative Prepare and maintain charts, records, logs, and reports. Obtain prior authorizations for selective Medicaid (QUEST) and other insurance procedures. Manage dental laboratory cases (forms, lab slips, appliances, impressions). Follow infection control guidelines and OSHA standards. Maintain operatories with appropriate supplies and equipment. Inventory and monitor dental supplies, equipment, medications, and reorders. Provide radiology services (expose/process x-rays, maintain radiation safety program, monitor dosimeter badges). Maintain patient confidentiality and document accurately. Serve as a patient advocate within clinic guidelines and insurance restrictions. Assist in compiling clinic statistics and reports. Cross-train for both front desk and clinical responsibilities. Verify insurance coverage/sliding fee scale, explain payment options, and collect payments. Participate in staff meetings, committees, and training. Direct Patient Services Assist providers with chair-side treatment (restorations, oral surgery, endodontics, prophylaxis, sealants, crowns, space maintainers, removable prosthodontics, etc.). Prepare, clean, and sterilize instruments and equipment. Support clinic operations with routine tasks and inventory upkeep. Perform allowable duties under the State Board of Medical Examiners (e.g., topical fluoride and anesthetic applications). Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Engage in self-development, quality improvement, and team activities. Education High School Diploma or GED (required) Current CPR Certification (required) Higher education in a related field (preferred) Experience & Skills Minimum 1 year of dental assisting experience. Knowledge of exam, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures. Skilled in assisting with a variety of dental treatments. Accurate and timely recordkeeping. Ability to learn and use dental software. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Ability to remain calm and effective in emergencies.
