Position Summary
The Theatre Production Specialist works in one of the following production areas within the Department of Dramatic Art: stage management, scenic carpentry, props carpentry/crafts, costume shop, sound, or electrics. Assignments are based on the candidate’s experience and expertise. Responsibilities may also include backstage production or run crew duties, as determined by the Production Manager.
Managing rehearsal and performance processes
Interpreting technical drawings and cut lists from the Technical Director
Executing stagecraft techniques under the direction of the Technical Director or Scenic Artist
Procuring, building, or refurbishing props
Cutting, draping, or stitching costume pieces under the Costume Designer or Costume Crafts Artisan
Recording or editing sound cues under the Sound Engineer/Designer
Pulling, hanging, cabling, or focusing electrics under the Master Electrician
The Theatre Production Specialist will work closely with undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Dramatic Art.
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree preferably in Theatre Arts, and some experience that provides the employee with the functional work experiences needed to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in theatre production in the assigned technical area, or equivalent combination of training and experience
Technical and artistic skills in the assigned area
Ability to interpret technical drawings and use specialized tools and machinery
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
B.A. or B.F.A. in Theatre with an emphasis on technical production, and previous supervisory experience and/or experience working in an academic environment.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to move up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
