Position Summary:

The purpose of a Personal Care Aide (PCA) is to provide support to individuals who need assistance with daily living activities. This role can encompass personal care, light housekeeping, and companionship to our residents, while ensuring the residents maintain a safe, comfortable and healthy environment. The position requires full range of body motion; handling and moving residents; physical dexterity; eye-hand coordination; standing and walking for extended periods; effective verbal and written English communication; and life and carry items weighing up to 50lbs.

Qualifications of Personal Care Aide (PCA):

High School diploma or equivalent required

Certified Geriatric Nurse Aide Certification (if applicable)

CPR or First Aide Certification (preferred)

Valid PA ID

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide physical and emotional support to the residents.

Observe and report significant changes in resident condition to supervisor.

Respond to emergency situations competently and calmly, exercise appropriate judgment.

Assure resident safety, always including accounting for resident location.

Develop and maintain a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel to meet the needs of the residents.

Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, calm and positivity.

Inspect resident rooms, nurses’ station, and the facility common areas for cleanliness.

Attend in-service programs and staff meetings when scheduled.

Make resident rounds as required by each resident’s support plan.

Serve resident food as required.

Answer resident call lights promptly.

Provide an encouraging environment to promote reality orientation and self-help abilities.

Handle and move residents.

Lift and carry supplies.

Ensure that items for resident use are properly recorded in resident supply book.

Practice safe working habits.

Ensure and advocate for resident rights.

Ensure HIPPA confidentiality is maintained by speaking to authorized persons only regarding the resident.

Retrieve resident laundry to be washed, dried, and returned within 24 hours.

Disinfect assistive devices (such as walkers, wheelchairs, oxygen tubes) and ensure they are in always working condition.

Assist with acts of daily living (toileting, dressing, transferring, showering, etc.) per resident support plan.

Practice safe work habits.

Document care provided in medical record.

Encourage residents to stay hydrated by following facility hydration schedule.

Follow scheduled daily assignments (linen changes, laundry, showering), etc.
