Job Summary

The Senior Director, Technical Operations is responsible for the quality and food safety of all flavors produced for our Company’s network of concentrate plants. This role ensures Flavor Manufacturing’s (FM) mission is accomplished throughout the daily activities taking place at the Apopka, Florida operation.

Flavor Manufacturing guarantees the continuous supply of cola and other proprietary flavors of unquestionable quality, while promoting a culture of safety, supporting innovation, creating value and protecting the Company’s most valuable trade secrets.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all quality, food safety, safety and environmental aspects of the 24/5 production facility for The Coca-Cola Flavor Manufacturing plant in Apopka, Florida.
  • Lead and mentor a team of scientists and engineers to drive performance and focus on continuous improvement to contribute to the design, development, and execution of an operating model, while meeting Company and regulatory requirements. This is an onsite role.
  • Prepare the department budget along with short- and long-term strategies in line with site goals and objectives.
  • Lead the onsite R&D and Commercialization team and collaborate with a networked team (R&D, IQD, IPG, Food Safety, Quality, QSE, CPS) to meet Company targets.
  • Manage Safety, Environmental, and Security; assess food safety hazards; communicate prerequisite plans, operational prerequisite plans, and critical control points; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Manage the Food Defense program for plant and warehouse operations.
  • Assess risks (financial, worker safety, public safety, product quality) and implement risk mitigation actions.
  • Ensure compliance with customer, legal, and religious requirements throughout the food chain and organization.
  • Develop and maintain formulas for all products manufactured at Flavor Manufacturing Apopka; ensure ingredients and suppliers meet company and plant requirements.
  • Manage Master Data in SAP (product, ingredient, and business partner).
  • Maintain relationships with regulatory bodies to obtain Kosher and Halal certifications as applicable.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and hold employees accountable per company guidelines and policies.
  • Review product and equipment specifications for conformance and address nonconforming products or ingredients with the team to drive improvements.
  • Collaborate with Production, Planning, Maintenance, Warehouse, Customer Service, Transportation, Product Development, Suppliers, Engineering, Quality, HR/LR, and other departments to improve site performance and achieve plant goals.
  • Lead and/or support capital and OPEX projects and develop/execute annual business plans to support growth and performance.
  • Support employee involvement in Safety, Analytical Problem Solving, Project Planning, and Vendor/Customer relations; foster a team environment.
  • Participate in ISO, GMP, FSSC, KORE and other internal audits and drive actions to improve procedures and corrective actions.
  • Travel to other Coca-Cola sites as needed.
  • Perform other duties as necessary and/or assigned.

Regulatory and Policy Compliance

  • Ensure the plant complies with Company policies, standards, and guidelines in safety, quality, environment, GMP, financial reporting, information protection, and Code of Business Conduct.
  • Comply with USA and Florida regulatory requirements (safety, environment, financial, tax, work rights, FSMA/FDA, EPA, etc.).
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 (Quality) and FSSC 22000 (Food Safety), including religious requirements (Halal, Kosher).
  • Adhere to ISO 45001 (OH&S) and ISO 14001 (Environmental) standards.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Industrial Chemistry required.
  • Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in a multinational manufacturing facility or similar supply chain role with progressive senior positions.
  • Minimum of 5 years as head of operations/manufacturing and a member of the plant leadership team.
  • Extensive knowledge of flavors and flavor manufacturing processes, including citrus oils.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems and knowledge of supplier fulfillment capabilities.
  • Ability to build system capability and capacity to ensure service is provided effectively.
  • Strong planning, organizational, negotiation, and communication skills; ability to influence widely.
  • Quality systems experience (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001) and GMP/Food Safety experience.
  • Ability to interact with government officials; strong people engagement skills.

Other Requirements

  • Normal manufacturing plant/office working conditions; may require after-hours support.
  • Travel as needed; based in Apopka, Florida. Limited business travel.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $176,000 - $199,000

Base pay offered may vary based on geography, knowledge, skills, and experience. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits is offered.

Annual Incentive Reference Value Percentage: 30

Annual Incentive reference value is market-based and represents performance at target.
