Executive Recruiter - Technical Accounting | Audit | Tax

Position Overview:

A rapidly expanding insurance and financial services organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee financial reporting and operational accounting activities within a key business segment. This role will manage a team of staff and senior accountants and report directly to the Director of Accounting. The ideal candidate is a licensed CPA with strong technical expertise in insurance accounting, including ASC 944, and prior management experience.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity with significant exposure to revenue recognition, risk transfer evaluations, and SOX compliance. Candidates must be able to operate independently, contribute to process improvements, and collaborate within a dynamic, fast-paced environment undergoing system transformation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead month-end and quarter-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting
  • Review and approve journal entries and reconciliations across balance sheet accounts
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and SOX regulations; conduct control walkthroughs and assist in enhancing control frameworks
  • Analyze monthly and quarterly financial performance against forecasts and budgets
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve technical accounting issues and streamline processes
  • Maintain and update accounting policies in accordance with US GAAP
  • Prepare financial statement disclosures and support external audits and carrier reviews
  • Create ad hoc financial analyses to support decision-making
  • Recommend and implement improvements to reporting systems and processes

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA license (active)
  • 4+ years of relevant accounting experience in the insurance sector, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial role
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, especially ASC 944 (insurance and reinsurance accounting); familiarity with ASC 606 is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience with internal controls and SOX compliance
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines and collaborate across teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be self-driven and capable of working with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in P&C insurance, reinsurance, or captives strongly preferred
  • Prior experience with risk transfer evaluations, quota share agreements, and IBNR
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, especially NetSuite and Workday Financials
  • Experience working in environments undergoing system implementations or scaling operations
