Job Summary

This position will a full time afternoon/evening position, responsible for performing day-to-day library functions, including reference and circulation services, reserves, and student staff supervision at the Purdue Indianapolis library location.

Duties include: Providing reference assistance, referrals, and user services to patrons. Answer questions and provide assistance by phone, in person, or electronically. Participate on digital reference services year-round (LibAnswers, Ask-A-Librarian). Provide instruction in locating and effectively using information and technology resources, online public access catalogs and databases. Assist with reserves functions including adding online content and removing content from catalog, includes native record creation/deletion. Administrative supervisor for all student staffing. Interview, hire, train, discipline and terminate student assistants. Schedule and supervise student assistants for the library service desk and other assignments. Creating and maintaining library displays and signage; monitoring inventory and ordering supplies for library use. Maintain library cleanliness.

The required hours are 11 A.m. to 8 P.m.

This position is a $15.00 - $19.90 hourly rate.

Education and Experience

Qualified Candidates Will Need

  • HS Diploma/GED and 3 years library or public service experience required.

Skills Needed

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a diverse community.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiasm for working with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Willingness to learn about and use digital technologies and software.
  • Ability to work in a self‑motivated way, independently and collaboratively with others.

What Is Helpful

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
